Swindon parcel machine

Post by teesdale »

Heard the machine is now running at Swindon Mail Centre. Remember when people sorted into drop bags which required a bit of knowledge. Then people sorted into tall red sleeved yorks and less knowledge was needed. My question to anyone taking part in the trial is that does the machine do away with any geographical or memory skills that used to be required completely. For example does a monitor in front of you say sort into york 1, 2 or 3.

Any geographical or memory skills that used to be required aren't needed with machines that have been sorting mail by postcode for half a century and are far more advanced now. :thumbup
It's just trudging from one house to the next one that machines can't do yet :Very Happy but a few more years and :wave :wave :thumbdown

Amazing, whichever managers they use over the years, their culture means they always f**k it up. Making the project last as long as possible is always part of the plan and using people with no experience means guaranteed delays or a run ending in eventual failure. I wonder how much money Royal Mail has wasted on this sort of thing, eg. World class mail. Long may they keep the same managers, no parcel machine here will save at least 50 jobs.

not really answering the question, we have seen some video footage of it working should be getting ours this year. On the assumption that it is now under test, how is it doing?
