What shoes to wear for the job
Personally the best thing I've found for reducing aching feet is to vary whatever shoes I wear and rarely wear the same pair more than 2 days in a row, I alternate between Cat boots, Cat Trainers and my own trainers... maybe it's just psychological but my feet don't seem to ache as much as they would if I wore the same pair of shoes all week!

That is just incorrect, the only time you can wear your own shoes is if you have a note from the doctor to state RM shoes are not suitable for your feet. Giving bad advice is not acceptable and could lead to discipline or worse.DB1100 wrote:Wrong, ganda our footwear is not PPE it's uniform,as long as you go through the proper procedure you will be ok,have a look in the health and safety sectionganda wrote:RM shoes must be worn when provided. If you have a slip or accident wearing anything else it will go against you with any compensation claim submitted, it will be the first thing RM will look for. It could even be used in determining if it's "at fault" accident, your to blame.

He is right though Royal Mail Footwear is not PPE, its part of the Uniform and therefore should be worn at all times as per your contract. The doctors note is proof of unsuitability for the wearer nothing else.
Yes you can be disciplined for not wearing uniform so follow the correct procedure. That has been in place for ever.
Even if you are wearing RM footwear if they are not safe you can be found at fault if they are a contributory cause in an accident, just like you can with your own footwear.

Occupational footwear becomes PPE when it has, in RM at least, a steel toecap added for safety purposes, such as when working on a loading bay.To improve the level of choice and obviate the reason for staff not to wear Royal Mail issue shoes and boots, Royal Mail Letters will be introducing four additional types of occupational footwear from two manufacturers to complement the Hi-Tech Magnum shoe and boot range.
These will be:
· Dr Martens shoes and boots, manufactured by Airwair.
· CAT shoes and boots, manufactured by Caterpillar.
These footwear manufacturers have a high level of brand recognition and a solid reputation in both retail and workwear environments and will therefore hopefully offer the suitable alternative options for all Royal Mail Letters wearers. Royal Mail Letters will also be adding similar choices to the PPE Safety footwear range. Existing allocations will remain unchanged and individuals will be entitled to select one type of shoe or boot.
