Info needed on induction and contract

Post by abzo »

Hi all, I just sent off my digital photo to Royal Mail, I was wondering whether Royal Mail send you your contract by post or they give it to you on your induction? I would also like to know whether the induction will be held at my local delivery office or a big mail centre, since I will be working at a delivery office in East London I was wondering where the local mail centre will be for my area so that i can make travel arrangements to get there. And finally do they take out new employees on a round during their induction and do they test you on your driving or is it just classroom based staff just filling out paperwork?

Any reply would be welcome, Thanks!

One other thing i forgot to mention was, what fails a security check? is it the reference given by previous employers or something else. if someone has any information regarding this then i'd appreciate it, thanks

The security check is a background check to see if you have any convictions that may bar you from working for Royal Mail. Normally these are honesty related, though theft is a definite bar.

They also check to see if you have any other reason why you would be a risk to employ. This is mainly if you have been employed by Royal mail or one of its subsidiaries, but occasionally they do check on references.

Induction. Classroom-based mainly H&S and Union stuff and how RM operates. Where it's held differs from office to office and week to week, if they have only new starters for one office they may hold the induction there. If they have a lot of new starters in different offices then they'll choose a central location normally a Mail centre.

The first few days you will be under instruction from a coach. After that, you will be either set off on your own or paired up with someone. Ideally, for about 6 weeks you'll stay on one duty. After that, you'll be used on whichever duties they need cover on.

Your driving assessment is usually done after a year or 6 months as its quite expensive for RM and they want people to show commitment before they pay out. The assessment is not a test they grade you on your level of risk. Unless your dangerous it's nearly impossible to fail.

You get the contract in the post. Seem to be a bit of wait though. I was offered employment about eight weeks ago now. Started three weeks ago and not got my contract yet.

I do my driver training next week.

I have nothing to hide just wondering what it involved thats all, I got no criminal history or points on my license, everything's clean lol

After having further looks on here seems like many others on the same boat with the time it takes for Royal Mail to get back to them.

Got some good news today, confirming that i passed the pre employment checks and that i have the job. Now on my email it confirms the dates in which my induction and first day at my delivery office will be. However it does say the following:

" You will receive a welcome e-mail which will confirm these details and also contains further information which you should read prior to attending your induction. Do not attend the Welcome Day until you have your confirmation of attendance as you will be turned away. Your contract will be sent to you in the post with a pre-paid envelope for you to return. If you are unable to attend the induction please contact us to rearrange your start date. DO NOT just go to the office the following day."

Now is the confirmation of attendance this email that i received or will i receive another one?
