Cant imagine that the cost of one big box of rubber bands per week costs more than the amount of fuel that gets used by dozens of vans

Royal Mail are known to waste money though. Just take a look at these new delivery to neighbour cards...I mean why not keep using the old P739 cards instead??

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

This is done for a laugh in my office. Being as the bands are biodegradable now (they will perish and crumble within a year if left outside or exposed to temperature changes often) posties often grab handfuls from the backs of vans/under seats, pouches not used for a while or dig down to the bottom of the cubby holes in the frame and retrieve the old ones. They then dump them on others' fittings (usually the more volatile chaps) and then we listen to the screams and shouts "these f*cking bands!!" or "for f*cks-sake this is f*cking stupid!" while smirking and even better when the lino tells the irate chap to "keep your language down.." :Very Happy :Very Happy :Very Happy

The thing is, they're so crap that I always use 2 on the lateral tie-up and one on the longitudinal line. I therefore use 50% more than would be necessary with decent ones. I can't tolerate bundle collapses. :no no

I was on a walk few months ago where the Mother of a house came out and asked me "Has Bob gave you a bag of bands for our Clare" (I use the name Bob as I don't want to get him in lumber) Anyway I said "I know nothing about bands" so she then pointed into the hall to showed me a ball as big as a football made out of Bob's Bands. So no wonder they are under lock and key in my office now...

We've had issuses with the small bands, dom say's its a health and saftey issue and made us sign stuff to say we shouldn't use the small one's. we started to get the large ones which can last a good month maybe more if looked after. Then the powers at be said we couldn't have the large ones coz they cost too much, so back to the small ones that snap straight away for a few month.

Im working with the dom support as im on rehab at the mo and we where talking about the band situation, she showed me an email by a the person she orders them off, saying she would not allow us to order the large ones because of cost, the n she showed me an email off the same person saying we had over spent for the financial year on small elastic bands and we could only order the large one's.

its just didn't make sense, how can we over spend on essentail tools for the jobs 3 months in to the financial year, would the small bands not cost more as we are using more as they snap straight away even before putting them round your bundle. does it not make sense to use the larger ones that last longer, in the long term will this not save money.

Hi guys, hope you don't mind if I take the liberty to tell you about my experience, which is that from time to time we do find a couple of rubber bands (still usable) in front of our front door or on the pavement. My partner picks them up and take them to work (at the NHS) where they don't order them anymore to...save money. We haven't seen any for some time now, so perhaps the latest postman is more considerate.

Plus, they can be a hazard for animals. http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/public/ti ... 640931.ece

However, cutting back on rubber bands to save money sounds a bit ludicrous, as I suppose they are really needed for your work. More consideration from a few posties would definitely be good.

Most of them snap whilst trying to get them round the mail.

True! I've had some pretty bad marks/bruises on my arm from them! I pre-stretch them now, this seems to help a tad!
