I enjoyed the job but everything is starting to mount up now and i kind of feel like i'm being taken for granted because i have no commitments and i'm young and keen. Which seems odd to me

The job would actually be good if the rounds were actually achievable in the time, but RM is so cut to the bone nowadays you don't even have the time to go to the toilet, take a break, or stop to say hello to anyone. Then you get back off your round 20 minutes late absolutely exahausted from your marathon round, try to book the OT and get a load of grief for it. All because some greedy b*stards higher up in the company have to get paid for doing jack s**t. Its got so bad now that everyone just thinks it's normal to bully and harrass, because it's "just the way it is". As soon as we get the shares i'm off.

Hey I'm happy in my job, I earnt 37K last year as a "part-time" postman. Show me a job at a similar skill level to ours that is anywhere close.
You can only earn 37k part time only by working lots of O/T, and good luck to you for doing it, I would if I was young free and single.

Not so bad if you are doing the late collections but a killer if its only deliveries.

Presumably that is with a ton of ghost overtime as those hours are frankly impossible. It wouldn't be surprising how much you love the job if that is the case - try doing it for the same hourly wage as the rest of us and see how chipper you feel after you've earned that £37K!

So it's all turned a bit nasty. I know I've given very little notice. However they are saying I HAVE to work Friday and Saturday. Obviously, I can't. How do I approach it? It's really stressing me out. I don't want to get a bad reference for leaving badly.

Think it really depends if you're owed it or not. By end of July you would have accrued 8 or so days. If you've already had more than that then you would owe them. Might be better on you just to work you're weeks notice.

Does your new job really depend on you're reference from Royal Mail. If so, explain to new employer they might mention you leaving 2 days early. If not f#!# RM. You're managers being a twat.

This is a good job..for senior full timers with nice rural duties who have been on the same delivery for years. I know a few in my office. Nice blokes and I've nothing against them but they live on another planet compared to what some of us have to put up with.

When you are at the other end getting bullied, abused, picked on,treated unfairly and shafted by getting moved all the time until you are so depressed you lie awake most of the night dreading going in again the next day..life isn't quite so grand.

Royal mails two tier system of working.
Very true post,I've switched off to it all now, don't let it bother me what other people do,it's hard but can be done, one of the thing's that does still grip my sh1te is when I'm explaining to the DOM that I won't be able to complete is when someone on a nice steady rural butts in with a wisecrack or 2
For we were soldiers once, and young

Well I've just offered to work Monday and Tuesday instead of Friday and Saturday . What more can I do? They said I'd left them 'in the s***' .I appreciate it isn't convenient. However they should have enough staff for such eventualitys.

Doesnt a weeks notice mean a week. If u tell em a week before you want to finish then isnt that ok ? Understand if u arent scheduled in for the first 2 days but isnt that just unlucky for RM. PS. I think they are unable to give a bad reference anyway.

I am on verge of jacking mine in, i do 20 hours. Fed up of the bullying to work over every day, managers thinking your just a piece of s**t. Having to complete a round that is 5hrs plus in less than 4hrs, doesn't work. Go in, even sequence has been put in the slots, miss sorts piled up and then get moaned at for saying can't complete on time. When other lads are leaving the office as you walk in! trying to move to another office as I hate the one I am in, all been ok'd by everyone and heard nothing! if the move doesn't come off I am off. Lads in depots are great, just hate the bullying and managers swearing at me for not being able to complete!
