Some strange logic by the union there.
"We'll accept the deal if you stop exec action"
The deal is either good enough to accept or it isn't, the PEC can't have it both ways.
What are the PEC going to do if RM say "We'll carry on with exec action whether you agree to the deal or not"?
Another stupid decision by our leadership who have been out thought all the way through this dispute.
We need a total clear out at the top of our union and we need people who will listen to the membership.
We need to recall conference as soon as possible and hold those who have made so many bad decisions on our behalf accountable for their actions.

I personally believe its good that the exec have laid down this ultimatum to royal mail, coz if royal mail turn round and say no, then who looks like idiots in the eyes of the press, public and government, certainly not us, we're (PEC) prepared to accept the deal providing you withdraw from the executive action you imposed during the strikes, and until a joint agreement on these changes have taken place, if the public etc see that the union is prepared to accept a deal and the only thing preventing further industrial action is for royal mail to withdraw from its executive action, then all pressure will be on royal mail!Spartacus wrote:Some strange logic by the union there.

I've had enough and I'm cheesed off and I and thousands upon thousands like me are paying these muppets to get this sorted.buzzer wrote:I don't know what is going on either, but logic dictates that rolling strikes will be announced on Monday and a deal will be struck soon after that. I don't think Leighton & Crozier will survive more strikes, the public have had enough and are getting really cheesed off.

Said it on Thursday, but worth repeating
Absolutely woeful lack of communication to the membership. And there's no excuse for it in the internet era. By not posting a daily update on the latest position on the CWU website, aren't all the top brass in the union justifying RM's accusation that the leadership will not embrace new technology and move with the times ? I can understand why a letter to all members' homes every day is not a practical option (and how would we receive them anyway if our local office is on strike?), but his total lack of official briefings to members is, however, an utter disgrace. They don't have to disclose any detail of the points still under discussion, but the website should be used to keep members informed of any developments in the process, so we don't feel sidelined or that RM are being assisted in their delaying tactics by union incompetence
The CWU site should have some sort of update every day, imho.

Re: Just heard
There are 16 members on the PEC aren't there? see http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/forum/vi ... php?t=6647lovejoy wrote:13 PEC Membersrathbonepostie wrote:P,E.C. has voted, 9-5 to accepot the deal, with the rider about sanctions and executive action. 3 officers dissacoiated themselves from the deal. 2 exec members recorded dissent, which allows them to campaign against the deal.
The idea that RM will withdraw all executive action is pie in the sky. In theory, a deal breaker, in practive I can see Hayes and Ward ignoring it.
9+5 is 14 plus you say2 dissented = 16?
Somebodies got their sums / story wrong??

On the maths. There are indeed 16 P.E.C. members. The vote was 9-5, two being absent. The point about 2 (of the 5) recording dissent is that this allows them to campaign against the decision.
Later starts are already conceded, so not included in the "withdraw all executive action and sanctions".
Whether or not Royal Mail concede this point (unlikely, and anyway, its open to "interpretation"), the majority are saying they accept the deal. In fact its a rotten deal, with or without this concession.

I find it difficult to believe that the PEC voted 9 to 5 to accept the deal. If they did it would be carried and we wouldn't be in this stalemate situation we are in now. I'm sure they are well aware that Postmen are eager for a resolution, but cannot swallow the crap that is put in front of them. Billy and Dave have probably been banging their heads against the wall with RM for the last 8 weeks and probably decided to put the ball into the PEC court, so they could have a rest. A more likely scenario is that the majority on the PEC don't agree with the deal and that is why it's taking so long.

That would look really good in the public eye for any democratic vote wouldn't it. We lost the vote but we're not having it.rathbonepostie wrote:On the maths. There are indeed 16 P.E.C. members.
