Hello all,
My name is Paul, i am a new postie, been in 3 weeks and i have to say i am really enjoying it, as always there are bad points but in general all is good. I'm pt but seem to be working full time ish hours most days, which is ok:)
Thought i would list a few things i have learnt in these first few weeks:
-I have the worst walk in the DO
-Finishing at 6 pm because you are new and have no real idea is real
-Getting home and falling a sleep at 7pm is a thing
-Letters when grouped together are heavy
-Parcels are heavy
-Trolleys when full of letters and parcels are heavy
-Royal mail issue footwear are heavy
-Feet really do hurt that much
-post box designers have never posted a letter
-Carry plasters with you at all times (see above)
-The public mostly will either ignore or look strangely at you when you say good morning (London thing?)
-People take an age to answer the door
-People tend to look at you through various windows before they answer the door
-When they do answer the door you will have just finished writing a docket
-Getting things right in the frame is the most important part of your day
-being out in the fresh air is just great
-Finishing your walk in a new record time is marvelous
-Other posties are by far the friendliest and most helpful group of people i have ever met
That's all i can really think of...As i said though i am really enjoying the role, training was a bit rubbish and i did get thrown in at the deep end a bit but after sitting behind a desk for 10 years this job is really like a breath of fresh air!!
:)
