Falmouth postal workers may strike over sacking of colleague

Staff at Falmouth delivery office are considering striking over the sacking of one of their colleagues.

Communication Workers Union (CWU) members are to ballot for strike action.It follows a meeting of the CWU members in the office when it was agreed to seek authority from the CWU postal executive in London to sanction the ballot.

Tony Lawton from the CWU said: "The member was suspended from duty earlier this year and following an investigation under the Royal Mail discipline Procedure and was sacked.

"The case centred on David Gill-Murray trying to assist a member of the public in the process of moving house.

"The customer had tried to put in place a re-direction of mail at his local post office, but due to a tariff increase they did not have any forms.

"He contacted David who said he could help them short term and set up a temporary re-direction while the customer set up the correct one.

"However he said the Post Office said that was wrong and caused loss of revenue.Following his sacking, Mr Gill-Murray.

The members in Falmouth hope the ballot will put pressure on the RML to reduce the penalty and reinstate him.

We routinely forward letters with forwarding addresses written on by customers. Why don't we instead kill those letters off telling them to buy an official redirect??

Yet again Royal Mail being heavy handed. I hope Falmouth do strike, as something needs to be done to show RM where to get off.
