Hi,

I applied for a position of Postman with driving. Will I be mainly be working with a van or a 50/50 split of foot/van? Got an interview so fingers crossed all goes well! Only reservation is knowing the area- where streets are.

Cheers

You'll probably be sharing a van, and even when you have passed the Changeover (RM Driving competency check) the majority of your day will be on foot.

I applied having the impression I will be going about delivery with a van. So I take from what you say I will be mainly going door to door by foot?

Yes.

The idea is 2 people work out of van. The driver parks up and both go and do a loop that comes back to the van. The driver then moves it to another start point for another 2 loops.

Van only deliveries are usually assigned to the more senior posties, although you might get them temporarily if you become a reserve, then you'd cover all types of duties when people are sick or on leave.

Even then, a firms or a rural delivery still has a lot of walking some with more than 200 delivery points, some with less. Unless you are with parcel force there is always a fair bit of walking when you work for Royal Mail.
