Are you In a shared van? If so you're saying that each of your rounds take 6 hours, 12 hours In total between you
They must be huge rounds or your trolley wheel has a puncture and you ain't fixed it

The CWU have argued that the planning value established by the Industrial Engineers should be applied through the national tools. Whole outdoor delivery times needs to be reviewed and national tools adjusted to reflect the actual time at the doorstep and includes relaxation values on longer outdoor spans. Talks have reached stalemate.
RM have proposed non biding mediation and have approached ACAS. The CWU maintains it's position.

so who on Royal mails side thinks it doesn't add time to a delivery?
Have this people ever done a delivery?
A ten year old could work out that if you had 10 packets, got rid of 3 packets first time, have to try 2 different neighbors with the remaining 7 packets that works out to the equivalent of 24 packets...so even if you say 1 minute per packet instead of 10 mins it's now 24 mins
Exactly. It is an absolute ludicrous position to take. FFS, do they think time stands still when we chap doors? Utter mentalists.

We had a guy in who's title was "Quality Manager" last year - I told him I had no intent of delivering to neighbour until my duty was adjusted to take in to account the extra time required. This went over his head and he just kept repeating "DTN is now a Royal Mail Standard"

Of course it takes more time the issue is the more parcels you get rid of first time by delivery to neighbour means the less re deliveries you have and of course the less items in the enquiry office. This is what the argument is about for example London has the lowest rate of delivery to neighbour but has 2500 re deliveries on a Saturday. So of course if the redelivers reduce on a Saturday than less time is need on a Saturday and more time is needed on other days.

Of course Royal Mail is trying to negate the cost of delivery to neighbour where as the CWU are demanding more time on delivery.

What percentage of failed deliveries end up as redeliveries though dingo?

In my experience it's low, perhaps at most around 10%, considering the impact of delivery to neighbour it's an argument that doesn't really stack up, throwing a number like 2500 around is meaningless unless you know the percentage increase in traffic this causes and the impact on deliveries, I doubt anyone in London is booking overtime on a Saturday due to redeliveries.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

You want to know how many re-deliveries I deal with on a weekly basis? At most 3 or 4.

I don't actually care about re-deliveries. As far as I am concerned that is work for another day. And whilst I appreciate RM make no revenue on re-deliveries, again, I couldn't really care - surely the free re-delivery is factored in to the cost of the services offered.

I am happy to deliver everything first time. But they better be prepared to accept that they either need to adjust my delivery to a more managable size or accept cut-offs. And they can forget lapsing!

But Royal Mail has to balance this on 66 thousand walks not just individuals.

Your right However that Royal Mail will have to accept if they want more doorstep scanning , more first time delivery and other services than they will have to accept this is going to take more time overall. The downside to this argument is that by having their strategy of one wave and merging on the street which the CWU are opposing will mean less indoor time and therefore more out door time.

The reality of th situation is that Royal Mail are panicking over the fact that Amazon , ASOS , House of Fraser , John Lewis are demanding both first time delivery and scanning and or taking their items elsewhere !

The issue for postal workers is that things are coming to an head concerning Royal Mail vision concerning one wave , merging , production control ie clocking in and out of every task and pensions !

If you cannot complete by doing delivery to neighbour and you inform them before you go out than you are in the right !

This part really cracks me up!

With greatest respect, how can ANY individual know that ahead of time? :thumbdown

What you would have to do, is each day inform manager that you MIGHT have difficulty in completing, as a result of deliver to neighbour.... now tell me, what kind of response should I expect to that STATEMENT OF FACT?

Would love to know in which other work places you have to approach the manager every day to tell them that you can't complete the work you've been given whether it's your delivery or lapsing. Frankly it's ludicrous to be put in that situation and can be quite difficult for individuals to face and deal with. What a way to run any company let alone one as big as RM. It's a bloody disgrace that people are put through that every day through no fault of their own.

Overnight retention policy

There is no national application of the overnight retention policy which can only be changed by agreement. RM have adopted an 8 mile limit without discussion.

I work in the Croydon area and we have been banned from taking vans home.No notice was given. Can they do this?
Slider tool. Lol.

17. Line managers wishing to terminate the overnight retention agreement must ordinarily provide employees with 28 days prior, written, notice. Royal Mail reserves the right to terminate the retention arrangement without notice
