Our night inward operation is around 140k of parcels how the hell can a machine which may possibly sort 10k per hour cope. We also procces 2c on nights approaching 100k a manual oeration will still need to be operated for unreadable items and missorts. This machine appears to be one white elephant!

Pah, 140K? DHL's system can process 50K/hour with more than 400 sorting points.

This is the future, have a few mega-sorting centres and trunk in/out the bulk of the mail eliminating the need for a lot mail centres.

However wonderful it is now,once royal mail gets their hands on it,it will be a completely different matter,if it's anywhere near as good as the new PDA'S we have nothing to fret about.

The packet machine at Swindon was on RMTV and the staff featured were very glowing in their praises for the PSM. Can anyone from Swindon please clarify?

So what's the medium/long term plan - machines in most/some mail centres ?

Is it just the one machine or different machines for different mail centres depending on size etc etc

As to commercially sensitive information, as a Mod I keep an eye out for it, and anyone who is unsure can always check with me and Postman first. However, the level most members operate at with RMG they are unlikely to get any information of a sensitive nature without first knowing that it's sensitive.

by commercially sensitive I mean everything that can help our c*ntpetitors to take a bread of our table.
Example: a random courier asks me as a postie how to get somewhere while I am on my collection and my standard response is: no clue, mate, I am a foreigner sorry. I use my sat nav/been doing this route for a while etc.
No help, but also no indication that I do it deliberatelly. Majority of time I do not know anyway and even if I knew I would NOT help. You take a bread out of my table, you are on your own. I would not got as far as misdirect them however tempting this may appear.
Different story with regular member of the public, even if I do not know, which is most of the cases I have got internet on My phone with googlemaps and so on and 3 minutes max I make them happy customers of Royal Mail
