if caught it can also be considered dishonest gross misconduct and you could be dismissed
I'm not disagreeing with what you have posted zx - but just as a matter of interest, how could it be proved to be fraudulent if the doc has given a sick note for stress ?

I don't believe that it can - and its a card that is getting played week in week out. In a sense I don't mind RM picking up the tab (or at least, its not my foremost concern), what I object to is an individual sitting in front of a health professional and lying.

Why would the doc not give the sick note ? - why take that risk, and then the individual in question goes and tops themselves, for example.
Of course - you don't have to lie to a health professional for the first 5 days at all, do you ?

THIS ... even people who have had accidents at work are being put on stage warnings once they go over the limits at my office.

if they are doing that, then they must be going down the ''blame'' route. and if issued, then they have found the person blameworthy of the accident on duty. i.e. you are taking shortcuts jumping over walls/fences etc whilst delivering. other than that, accidents on duty are generally overlooked and not counted towards a stage if you are not to blame.

later this year I need a Saturday off for a very big family celebration, once in a lifetime event. Now I know I WILL be there for that but im not asking for a day off or swap as it WILL be refused.

Do I feel guilty? Not for one second.

Sorry RM, but you bring a lot of your problems on yourself.
Sadly I agree,Ive tried to get a Saturday off to do a charity event in September for the last few years,we don't get notification of what day the event is till later in the year after we had to pick our leave,so it's almost impossible to guess it,so I go sick and sod em.

Late update ... I went to work on the Saturday, and then drove up to Wasdale getting there early enough to set up Mess Tent in order to cook for the arrivals from Snowdon.

Well done mate.
You know as well as I do that it won't make one iota of difference in your standing with your employer - no-one seems to care one way or the other. But at least you know - and your family - and you can hold your head up high and be proud. At least you have that.

What happened to the scheme whereby you were entered into a draw for a car if you weren't off sick for 12 months ? It was in the right direction if you ask me - but not seen or heard anything about it for several years.
