as pointed out by a previous post, it is 6.86/7. less tax/N.I. which is £4.66, the increase in N.I. contributions in april has a reducing effect on the £4.66 of 2 and half quid approx. in my case (which will also be most people) it is a rise of £2.16.heapsy wrote:If you are full time and work in delivery it is actually £6.87 before tax. If you take off 25% it would still be £5.15. I've included the delivery supplement in my calculation. I am also not exactly sure of the amount of tax NI you might pay. It is slightly more complicated by me paying AVCs.Darren Bent wrote:think it is about 2 pounds pay rise a week after tax before NI increase Cut this year. Oh wow :(

mine went up nearly a fiver. that's why I opted for the salary exchange agreed with cwu and rm, to 'lessen'' the financial blow.Maxxy3 wrote:You're right, CPI is low, at 0.3%By the way, RPI inflation (CPI, used by the bosses and union, is artificially low) is 2.61%. RPI is 1.3%, so 1.6% is not a pay cut in real terms at all.
Also NI contributions have only gone up for people who contracted out in the past, I'm 28 and mine haven't gone up. You're now just paying the same as all us young(ish) ones.

Your head is in the sand. Do you ever venture outside the capital and see the working conditions for the rest of us? Unfortunately, the union is not strong everywhere - I don't have the power to ensure the 90% of my office who come in early, or don't book breaks, do so. What you are in effect saying is I should basically say f**k it and join the runners and early-birds wrecking the job, as I certainly get no support from my weak arse rep and equally spineless area rep.dingo wrote:It never ceases to amaze me that people who claim that the union only represents the strong are clearly forgetting the fact is that those offices have protected themselves because that is what being in the union is about !
Look at the David Mitchell case , you would not say that was a particularly strong unit but they stuck together and fought ! There are plenty of other examples of this in many offices ! Being in the union is not about someone from Wimbledon saving you it's about you taking a decision to stick together and stop management from treated you like they do.
It isn't my job to encourage union membership and adherence to rules - higher ups should be making more of an effort to encourage local reps to do so. At the moment, it feels like paying my dues only serves as some kind of insurance policy, with a hope that I might get at least some support, when eventually I make a mistake, and have it jumped upon because, as one of the few doing the job as RM/CWU want, I am constantly surveilled.
I stand by my original claim - you sound more like a RM spokesperson than you do a CWU one.

I opted out of PSE and mine went up less than a fiver also, you only save a few pence a week since the NI increase. My Net pay has gone down about £3 a week since the NI increase.daveyeff wrote:mine went up nearly a fiver. that's why I opted for the salary exchange agreed with cwu and rm, to 'lessen'' the financial blow.Maxxy3 wrote:You're right, CPI is low, at 0.3%By the way, RPI inflation (CPI, used by the bosses and union, is artificially low) is 2.61%. Because these acts, in themselves account for time which we do not have. Revisions were done prior to deliver to neighbour, collection on delivery and 2d scanning were introduced and as such time for these is not accounted for. Try approaching management on a daily basis saying you are leaving a couple of loops in because "I MIGHT have to go knocking on neighbours doors" and see the reply you get.dingo wrote:It never ceases to amaze me that people who claim that the union only represents the strong are clearly forgetting the fact is that those offices have protected themselves because that is what being in the union is about !

There is an old saying if you fight you might lose but if you never fight you will always lose !
Now let's look at what offices and the CWU have achieved in recent months by taking a tough stance on resourcing
3400 staff who were on FTC contracts are now on permenant contracts
3500 new entrants have now joined the company after the biggest recruitment shambles since the DRAS dispute in 1988
600 casuals given permanent contracts
800 part timers given an increase in their contracted hours including over 300 to full time
Works is still on going on issues of resourcing !
Now look what we have not got in our industry which they have in other European postal services franchising , outsourcing , two tier work force.
Now I have to say if your being bullied in the workplace than get in touch with the CWU for help ! Don't criticise others who ensure that bullying does not take place !
I really do think some posters on here think they are self employed and working for themselves ! When you joined Royal Mail you agreed to a contract to work a set amount of hours ! Providing it is safe , legal and your not being bullied to work beyond your time than why are you worried if you are asked to scan items or delivery to neighbour ?
I genuinely believe senior CWU officials have absolutely no idea the things that go on day to day in delivery offices up and down the country.
If you want to actually do something to help those of us on delivery Dingo - here is something you could propose. A more robust and easy to initiate overrunning delivery procedure, whereby the onus isn't on us being psychic in predicting whether or not the daily variables in workload will allow us to go home on time!

aye, that'll be about right. mine was about 2.50 with the PSE....this is what I am saying about the pending pay rise though, because your pay went down about 3 quid, when you get the actual rise (less tax and N.I.) you will only be getting about £1.66 in your case. happy days.Surreypostie wrote:I opted out of PSE and mine went up less than a fiver also, you only save a few pence a week since the NI increase. NI has only gone up for people who opted out of the second state pension, which you can no longer do.daveyeff wrote:aye, that'll be about right. mine was about 2.50 with the PSE....this is what I am saying about the pending pay rise though, because your pay went down about 3 quid, when you get the actual rise (less tax and N.I.) you will only be getting about £1.66 in your case. happy days.Surreypostie wrote:I opted out of PSE and mine went up less than a fiver also, you only save a few pence a week since the NI increase. PSE has nothing to do with it, although that was technically a small pay rise if you opted in.

As far as PSE is concerned I think the clue is in its title – Pension Salary Exchange. It reduces the amount of NIC’s we have to pay based on the amount we pay into our pensions. So if you pay AVC’s for example, you’ll save more than if you don’t.
If you opted out of PSE, the 1.6% pay rise(assuming it’s voted in) would actually work out as less than the aprox £2.50 net pay rise people are quoting.
In my opinion too many people are moaning about how much they’ll get in take home pay. But that is nothing to do with RM. They are potentially giving us a 1.6% increase in your gross pay, which as far as I’m concerned is pretty good considering inflation, etc.
If the government increases NIC’s for previously contracted out employees, then that’s nothing to do with RM. Why should they compensate us for something the government does?

Moya will get a decent payrise though, she won't be arguing whether its £2.60 or £5.00
Under the new policy, detailed in the firm's annual report, Ms Greene's total pay packet could rise to a maximum of £2.4 million. Ms Green was paid £1.5 million last year.
On a like for like basis, the maximum amount Ms Green can be awarded has risen by £581,000, from £1.8 million to £2.4 million.
The increase is linked to the introduction of a deferred share element in the company's executive pay structure. Overall, the pay deal would consist of a base salary, annual bonus, a deferred share award and a long term incentive plan.
Orna Ni‑Chionna, chair of Royal Mail's remuneration committee, said: "We want to create a reward structure that appropriately balances the importance of short‑term delivery with the creation of long‑term sustainable value."
Shareholders will vote on the pay plan at Royal Mail's AGM in July.
Under Ms Greene, the 500-year-old company - which was privatised in 2013 - has embarked on an ambitious cost-cutting drive, reducing its headcount by 3,500 last year.
Last month, Royal Mail said full-year pre-tax profits slumped 33% to £267 million as it took a hit from transformation costs.
However, adjusted annual operating profits before transformation costs - Royal Mail's preferred measure of performance - rose 5% to £742 million.
As to the question are the top brass of the union aware of how difficult it is for you on delivery, yes they are.
At every meeting I have attended the Reps stand up and tell them all the problems that you are having and Dave , then Bob will get up and say oh dear we will sort that out and then all the reps clap and cheer and nothing gets done and we all go home after a hard 4 hours of listening to the top brass tell us how they are doing such a good job for us.
It got so boring and predictable I have stopped going.
So lets see if Dingo can disagree with one of the Reps telling you how it really is.
