This is a pittance of a pay rise!!!

I am not blaming the cwu however but come on this is just not good enough, more on more being put on us everyday.

I will be certainly voting NO hope most people will come to there senses,

Do we know in comparison to this pay rise what the managers have been offered ?? that has prompted them to suspend strike action? dingo ? or anyone ? please inform
If it is on par at 1.6 % just bear in mind that 1.6% of there salary is equal to more in monetary terms than 1.6% of our wages!!!

Our negotiated pay rise is not even worth having I would rather have an hour off the working week if we were given a choice of the 2. This would have been an adequate or very good deal I fell if it came alongside another hour off working week and down to 38 hours as well as a circa 1 - 1.5% pay rise, but i feel it is not good enough

RANT OVER!!!

Yes, from a bygone age. Time has moved on and today's CWU is useless in comparison. I've paid my dues for the last 15 years so have contributed plenty, and feel I have every right to criticise.
Now let's be clear your given a contract with hours ! What you do within those contracted hours providing it is safe , reasonable and legal is what you do !

An employee cannot force you to work beyond time , cannot force you to come in before your time or work through your meal relief. We have loads of agreements which stop this but all you need is too stick together !
Easily said from the safe confines of strong units. Unfortunately weak units are now being directed by weak area reps, which more senior CWU members should be keeping track of and helping out with. You are losing the support of long-term members such as myself, and new recruits are not even bothering to sign up. Soon only London will be represented, but I guess senior CWU management are fine with that.
Now look at delivery to neighbour if you delivery more to neighbour it should eat up some more delivery time but it may reduce Saturday re- deliveries ! in London there 2500 re- deliveries on a Saturday and if delivery to neighbour was increased it would reduce time on Saturday for re- delivery !
Said by someone who clearly doesn't work in delivery. I have to predict before I go out, if I am going to complete. I have no idea how many people are going to be in to receive packets. I am not psychic. I have no idea how much time will be necessarily taken up hunting for a neighbour to get a parcel to, but I know for f***ing sure it is quicker to write out a 739 - this is disputed by management and the CWU alike. I don't give a toss about Saturday. That is already one of the busiest days of the week, and unlike in the past, job and finish is done anyway, so I could give a toss if it saves time then.
In terms of D2D scanning , Amazon are coming back in some areas due to this which is good news.
Great. I'm all for that as a shareholder. Now, just give me a scanner that frigging works on 2D barcodes, and the time as part of my delivery to scan every item...oh no wait, that doesn't take any extra time either right?
Look you have a daily attendance which you are not obliged to go over without remuneration ! However too many units don't stick up for each other ! A union is first and foremost formed in a workplace ! Sure you should have help from outside but I have to say if individuals just got in their mind they are going to work till their duty ends than a lot of things would change instead of trying to chase tails and time !
So easily said by someone not on the end of harassment daily for wanting to work to the agreements agreed by both the CWU and RM alike. Rather than just agreeing to proposals, the CWU should spend more time on enforcing them in every unit rather than rely on supporting the stronger offices only.
Spot on!!!!!!!!!! :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause

So many things right with your post its hard where to start and I have to agree London will soon find itself completely isolated the way senior management are carving up the weaker areas in the country slow but surely and the CWU just don't get it and let it happen.

As for this ;

So easily said by someone not on the end of harassment daily for wanting to work to the agreements agreed by both the CWU and RM alike. Rather than just agreeing to proposals, the CWU should spend more time on enforcing them in every unit rather than rely on supporting the stronger offices only

Royal Mail is the only company I've worked for that has a management that makes your working life as hard as possible for doing the job how its supposed to be done and on the other hand turns a blind eye to those that don't and go home anything up to an hour or more before the end of their contracted hours each day just because they've "completed".

If the CWU were serious about protecting jobs and full time hours they'd have nailed Royal Mail years ago over units not following the correct delivery and working methods. :no no

I'm happy with it personally, I've never really had a pay rise before aside from minimum wage periodically rising and the two rises you get within RM at 6 and 12 months service.

It never ceases to amaze me that people who claim that the union only represents the strong are clearly forgetting the fact is that those offices have protected themselves because that is what being in the union is about !

Look at the David Mitchell case , you would not say that was a particularly strong unit but they stuck together and fought ! There are plenty of other examples of this in many offices ! Being in the union is not about someone from Wimbledon saving you it's about you taking a decision to stick together and stop management from treated you like they do.

There is an old saying if you fight you might lose but if you never fight you will always lose !

Now let's look at what offices and the CWU have achieved in recent months by taking a tough stance on resourcing

3400 staff who were on FTC contracts are now on permenant contracts
3500 new entrants have now joined the company after the biggest recruitment shambles since the DRAS dispute in 1988
600 casuals given permanent contracts
800 part timers given an increase in their contracted hours including over 300 to full time

Works is still on going on issues of resourcing !

Now look what we have not got in our industry which they have in other European postal services franchising , outsourcing , two tier work force.

Now I have to say if your being bullied in the workplace than get in touch with the CWU for help ! Don't criticise others who ensure that bullying does not take place !

I really do think some posters on here think they are self employed and working for themselves ! When you joined Royal Mail you agreed to a contract to work a set amount of hours ! Providing it is safe , legal and your not being bullied to work beyond your time than why are you worried if you are asked to scan items or delivery to neighbour ?

I have not got an issue if you wish to fight for a better deal than 1.6% but remember in the 31 years I have been in the job we have never got a great pay deal based on a no strings deal. The best pay deals we have ever got is when pay is linked to changes to working practices such as DRAS , SFMB , The Way Forward , Single daily delivery , pay and major change , pay and mod , BT2010 and Agenda for Growth.

Remember what the CWU have parked to further talks is one plan , one wave , longer delivery spans , more automation , changes to start times , production control clocking in and out , further closures to delivery offices , merging whilst delivering and quite a few other things

The more you would want to increase the pay the more Royal Mail will want to include the above in the talks !

The union strategy was always to get a no strings deal and than face these talks and our policy of securing a 35 hour gross working week , protecting terms and conditions and ensuring that Royal Mail pay for change but limiting what Royal Mail want !

Oh not to forget it is likely in line with the legal process that Royal Mail will announce that they will close DB pension scheme from 2018 sometime within the next two months !

Hence why some in the union don't believe we should lead a Strike on whether we get an extra 0.5% worth around for a full timer an extra 90 pound a year !

1. if you have too much work put on you then you either cut off or book overtime.
2. this rise is way above inflation, feelings of "its not good enough" arent really valid.
This is a more than fair offer so long as theres no strings, sure you can vote no and hold out for a few tenths of a percent more if you wish, but is it worth striking over ?

I think this from a regular poster sums things up nicley, and its not a no strings deal at all.

Mount Pleasant Workers Fight bulletin 1/6/16

Unread postby anna » Thu Jun 02, 2016 11:17 am
Here is latest bulletin.

RESOUNDING NO!
Last Friday we heard that RM will offer a 1.6% pay rise - 2 months late! But as yet (time of writing) there’s nothing official from the CWU. It should go without saying that 1.6% is a joke. It amounts to little more than £2.80/wk (depending on your own rate); after tax and (increased) NI. The cost of a Costa coffee!
By the way, RPI inflation (CPI, used by the bosses and union, is artificially low) is 2.61%. So this pay "rise" offers a pay CUT in real terms!

LET US FIGHT NOW!
Yet we're hearing that the CWU executive is going to recommend we accept this pay cut because it is a "no strings" deal!! The long and razor-wire strings are to be discussed later, in June. Only then will they (ha-ha) suggest we fight for their counter-proposal for a reduced working week, against RM's one wave, one plan - which simply means fewer of us doing more work for less. But this is a trap!!! And we should not fall for it. If we fight now, RM will know how dangerous it will be for them to try to tie us up with strings later - or anytime!

MANAGERS ARE ALWAYS "ON STRIKE" ANYWAY
Yes, even the CMA (managers' union) hasn't accepted the latest pay offer - which we hear is "up" from 1.3% to...1.6%! Coincidence?
Sure, they called off the strike this Tuesday citing "progress" - but then we never believed they'd go on strike anyway (and would we have even noticed?). One issue they got stuck on was that their pay increase wasn't across the board. So now apparently all managers will get the same. 1.6%?

YES, WE DO THE WORK!
And if the 1.6% alone wasn’t enough of an insult, just last week, RM announced a 5% rise in "adjusted operating profits" - and £608m annual profits! So they can complain all they like about "competition" and the fall in letters - but their own figures betray them. These figures prove that we're super-exploited, and the only way to stop this is by fighting them at every single opportunity! Like NOW!

TROUBLE MAKERS?
Of course we're going to have to ensure that the CWU leaders use the words we tell them to use - like "strike"! Even Unite/CMA used it, tho' it didn't materialise into action. And more's the pity

If you are full time and work in delivery it is actually £6.87 before tax. If you take off 25% it would still be £5.15. I've included the delivery supplement in my calculation. I am also not exactly sure of the amount of tax NI you might pay. It is slightly more complicated by me paying AVCs.

You're right, CPI is low, at 0.3%

RPI is 1.3%, so 1.6% is not a pay cut in real terms at all.

Also NI contributions have only gone up for people who contracted out in the past, I'm 28 and mine haven't gone up. You're now just paying the same as all us young(ish) ones.

Cwu HQ takes a lot of flak for failures at local and branch level, if I were HQ I would be asking myself why...as for this deal it is what it is and the members will accept it because as has been pointed out the only thing you would be fighting and losing pay for is slightly more money and that doesn't make much sense.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
