What happened to CWU's plan to get a Court ruling on whether OFCOM has any legal remit to basically poke its nose into our pay (was referred to in threads during last year)? Seems to me to go way beyond "getting value for consumers", which is usually the broad brief for industry regulators.

It's a deal that's basically above inflation, and worth upwards of £300 for the yr, take home on full time basic. Not too bad really in this current economic climate. Should be grateful we are not fighting for our jobs mate. If you reckon they are piling more and more on you, all you have to do is come in on time, work steadily and to the book and finish at your finish time if you wish. No stress. Simples. Honestly some people just aren't happy. Try looking around the jobs market and try getting something comparable for more money. If the managers were getting 5% then yeah I'd be pissed off but they are getting similar deal to us.LouBarlow wrote:Everything I hear from the union today, sounds like it has been run through the official RM sanitiser. Even our area rep sounds like a RM spokesperson now.
More work for less pay? Check. Thanks union.
No reduction in duty sizes despite 'delivery to neighbour' being hammered into our duty times? Check. Thanks union.
No extra time needed to scan 2D barcodes? Check. Well done union.
Just agree to everything without any thought for your front line members. The union is a joke nowadays.

It's not above inflation at all, because we have all increased our NI contributions since April, so any rise will only put us back to pre-April wages anyway. I admit that that isn't RM's fault, but it is the cherry on the icing on the cake for me, when I see union head honchos, including on here, spinning scare stories to force through wank working regulations and, in this case, pay deals.rambo1 wrote:It's a deal that's basically above inflation, and worth upwards of £300 for the yr, take home on full time basic. Personally, I do come in on time, work by the book, and have my breaks etc, but when you are one of the few who does, and you have to go on the offensive every single day, about unrealistic performance demands, it tends to wear you down after a while. When the union offers no support for people wanting to do the job as RM asks, then to hear the same old scare stories about how we are 'lucky to have jobs' etc it does become annoying and make you question why you pay your dues every single f-ing week.

I don't. I cancelled that yrs ago. Try not to let it bother you if you want to work to time, just have to be polite and tell the lino how much you can or can't do in your hrs. Gotta be strong and play the game fair, if you genuinely can't complete doing the job the way they want then don't. Chin up mate, live your life happy, stress is a killer.LouBarlow wrote:It's not above inflation at all, because we have all increased our NI contributions since April, so any rise will only put us back to pre-April wages anyway. I don't know what report you are referring to but it is not the one I referred too !anna wrote:I looked at that Wik report referred to by Dingo and others on the link put up - it was published in 2013 and is based on stats and data from 2011. It is 5 years out of date!! I think that using this as some kind of a reason for RM's current strategy ("forced" by Ofcom) is suspect and dishonest. This report by a private consultancy was based on a nationalised RM before many very nasty changes which are already implemented. It's nothing to do with the price of eggs. I mean the price of accepting 1.6%.
For the record the WIK report was published on the 31st March 2016 and was titled Review of the projected cost within Royal Mail's business plan !
It's opening paragraph is : WIK has reviewed Royal Mail's 2015 Business Plan and assessed the underlying efficiency initiatives and cost savings . The plan were compared to Royal Mail's past performance and the past performance of comparable postal operators! WIK has assessed whether Royal Mail's 2015 plans appear more or less ambitious than these benchmarks !
So your post is not accurate at all ! I suggest read the report if you do not think that Of Comm request for WIK to review Royal Mail's business plan which includes one wave etc is concerning than you are clearly wrong !

The CWU comes in for some criticism but everything you have at work comes from the CWU , pay , hours , sick pay , paid holiday , pensions , maternity pay , paternity pay , meal relief. Plus all the agreements that safe guard you !
Now let's be clear your given a contract with hours ! What you do within those contracted hours providing it is safe , reasonable and legal is what you do !
An employee cannot force you to work beyond time , cannot force you to come in before your time or work through your meal relief. We have loads of agreements which stop this but all you need is too stick together !
Now look at delivery to neighbour if you delivery more to neighbour it should eat up some more delivery time but it may reduce Saturday re- deliveries ! in London there 2500 re- deliveries on a Saturday and if delivery to neighbour was increased it would reduce time on Saturday for re- delivery !
In terms of D2D scanning , Amazon are coming back in some areas due to this which is good news.
Look you have a daily attendance which you are not obliged to go over without remuneration ! However too many units don't stick up for each other ! A union is first and foremost formed in a workplace ! Sure you should have help from outside but I have to say if individuals just got in their mind they are going to work till their duty ends than a lot of things would change instead of trying to chase tails and time !

How often do you have a re-delivery on a Saturday (or any other day) to find that they're still not in...

There are still too many "I'm alright Jack" individuals who'll carve up the job any way they can to finish early. Total self interest. They're in every unit and it's them who are ruining it for the majority. This pay deal will get voted in and next years one will be the big one. So all you idiots who still come in early and don't take a meal relief, it's coming to an end, production control WILL utilise the paid hours you work!

This 1.6% offer is pathetic. Just make sure you make all your colleagues aware of it and use your vote against it. If we don't vote we won't be heard!!!

Steel workers have just had to take a cut in Wages and pension to keep employed. Is 1.6% so pathetic? How much does your bank give you for your savings? If you think you can do better go look for another job, think you'll find we're pretty well paid for what we do.iainwilson wrote:This 1.6% offer is pathetic. Yes, from a bygone age. Time has moved on and today's CWU is useless in comparison. I've paid my dues for the last 15 years so have contributed plenty, and feel I have every right to criticise.dingo wrote:The CWU comes in for some criticism but everything you have at work comes from the CWU , pay , hours , sick pay , paid holiday , pensions , maternity pay , paternity pay , meal relief. Easily said from the safe confines of strong units. Unfortunately weak units are now being directed by weak area reps, which more senior CWU members should be keeping track of and helping out with. You are losing the support of long-term members such as myself, and new recruits are not even bothering to sign up. Soon only London will be represented, but I guess senior CWU management are fine with that. Now let's be clear your given a contract with hours ! What you do within those contracted hours providing it is safe , reasonable and legal is what you do !

Said by someone who clearly doesn't work in delivery. I have to predict before I go out, if I am going to complete. I have no idea how many people are going to be in to receive packets. I am not psychic. I have no idea how much time will be necessarily taken up hunting for a neighbour to get a parcel to, but I know for f***ing sure it is quicker to write out a 739 - this is disputed by management and the CWU alike. I don't give a toss about Saturday. That is already one of the busiest days of the week, and unlike in the past, job and finish is done anyway, so I could give a toss if it saves time then.
Great. I'm all for that as a shareholder. Now, just give me a scanner that frigging works on 2D barcodes, and the time as part of my delivery to scan every item...oh no wait, that doesn't take any extra time either right? In terms of D2D scanning , Amazon are coming back in some areas due to this which is good news.
So easily said by someone not on the end of harassment daily for wanting to work to the agreements agreed by both the CWU and RM alike. Rather than just agreeing to proposals, the CWU should spend more time on enforcing them in every unit rather than rely on supporting the stronger offices only.Look you have a daily attendance which you are not obliged to go over without remuneration ! However too many units don't stick up for each other ! A union is first and foremost formed in a workplace ! If I wanted to work in a profitable steel industry I'd go to China and get a job. Delivering to a neighbour might eat up time that you do not have, so you go over your time. So saturday could mean you have time to do absorption if you finish early.dingo wrote:The CWU comes in for some criticism but everything you have at work comes from the CWU , pay , hours , sick pay , paid holiday , pensions , maternity pay , paternity pay , meal relief.
