Will most likely be starting with the royal mail fairly soon on a 20hr contract but will be really relying on overtime, just wondered how soon overtime is likely to become available and is there usually plenty going? Thanks in advance.

You'll probably go over by a bit each day just doing the duty you are put on. On an average week I tend to do around 30hrs even though I'm on a 24hr contract although last week I did 14hrs ot. As for ot on other duties that need covering due to illness, holidays etc it is usually offered to the posties who have been there the longest. Expect to find yourself way down the pecking order and picking up the scraps nobody wants!

I've had atleast 9hrs OT a week since the day I started in fact this week will be the first time I'm going to be doing just 25hrs. But I've got an extra day off and just working the hours over 3 days means no childcare to sort as it fitted in perfect with hubbys shift pattern
