The didn't goldplate the directive, they completely stripped it of any value and sold it off to their mates, the EU directive could have protected the USO from cherry picking parasites but that's not what Blair wanted, If we hadn't been in Europe he would still have done the same, it would just have been easier.claretandblue wrote:that's why we need to vote leave, our union's beloved labour party was in power when this happened, they love the EU and goldplate directives.

The same as when they opened up the labour market to 500k poles, They wanted cheap labour and bribed them with Tax credits to vote labour.

America has been isolationist forever, they are the strongest of all nations, they control their own trade, they control their own judiciary and they control their own borders and yet Obama had the temerity to say Britain should stay in Europe and have all those controls handed over to a non-elected organisation.chillout1571 wrote:I'm voting to stay in, I'm looking at our relationship with Europe and the world and I feel isolation is always proven a negative thing if you look back in history. It's the only thing I have ever agreed with Cameron about, lol.
The Brexit brigade cannot say how things will go if we leave and that is always the way with a new venture, however the Bremain seem to know exactly what will happen if we leave. They make sweeping statements that the sky and everything else will fall and we'll be in WW3 in no time at all - in FDRs inaugural speech he said we have nothing to fear but fear itself. We as a nation are extremely resilient, whatever the circumstances we will, as we always have, abide.

Equally the "Remainers" have said a vote to stay is a vote to retain the status quo, when clearly it's anything but, given the ever-closer political and financial ties the EU is hoping to achieve in future.
If a remain vote is the overall winner, how long before the UK's financial sector is degraded (moreso as we're not in the Euro) and all the so-called EU grants etc are diverted to the more-deserving countries of the South and East?
Zu haff been naughty peoples now zu vill pay...and all that. How the bullying Eurocrats would love that scenario.
You had your chance, you didn't take it, now sit there and take your medicine.

The USA is a federal union of states dvb, ithe clue is in the name,it is the model the EU has tried to copy, if you want to draw parallels it would be closer to say that Texas should become isolationist , declare independance and withdraw from the union.

Yes I've heard that explanation before, the clue is in the name. It doesn't detract from the fact that they control all the functions of state internally and have elected representatives which can be voted out, not something you can say for the EU. There was a programme on TV the other day when the interviewer asked Tessa Jowell deputy leader of the Labour Party prior to the election, who the seven heads of the EU was in various functions and couldn't name a one and yet they are making decisions for Britain.fishtank wrote:The USA is a federal union of states dvb, ithe clue is in the name,it is the model the EU has tried to copy, if you want to draw parallels it would be closer to say that Texas should become isolationist , declare independance and withdraw from the union.
My opinion is the EU will miss the UK more than we miss them and the reasons is:
"The UK contributes much more than it receives too, about €4.7bn more. Why the gap? The UK is a rich country and the EU points out that although it spends less in the UK than the national contribution, the British economy gains much more from access to European markets and contracts."
So what would change if we stopped being a member? They would still need to sell their goods to us but we wouldn't necessarily have to buy from them. I believe the EU are greatly concerned that we will pull out because of the stress it would put on other nations within the EU to look at their position and follow suit. The EU is set to expand even further and though it's said there is little chance Turkey would become a member any time soon the EU are giving them 2Bn a year to assist them in applying for membership. The move for ever closer union is on the cards and should the UK vote to remain it would be the death knell for democracy in the UK within a very short space of time. There are already moves afoot within the EU to bring out new regulations BUT only after the vote on the 23rd of June!
It should be a question of beware the EU, including Greeks, bearing gifts.

Why does Trump want to build a wall if they "control their own borders"?dvbuk55 wrote:

I keep hearing this control our own borders shite.
This is a pointless soundbite that doesn't really mean anything.
When has Britain ever controlled its borders? Possibly before the Romans - but probably not.

Hadrian built a wall, the Chinese Built a wall, it is a deterrent, realistically it's a non starter for the Mexican border about as realistic as Trump being the next POTUS, that job will go to Hilary Clinton. We don't have control of our borders because we cannot refuse entry to EU citizens by and large regardless of their criminal record in their country of origin, once out we simply close the border to all non-desirables - such as those who don't speak English and those who don't already have a job.motherhubbard wrote:Why does Trump want to build a wall if they "control their own borders"?dvbuk55 wrote:

Speaking of controlling their borders you would imagine they would be pretty lax with the Canadian border considering how very close they are ethnically but that's not the case as you must have seen on TV.

Regarding the EU US similarities or differences, I'm surprised that no-one has pointed out the rather obvious fact that although the US is a federation of states, they have (in the main) common legalities, language, aims and a single president, whereas the EU has no single premier (yet!) and the laws, customs, parliaments and administrations all differ markedly.
The cracks of forced integration are already showing in countries as diverse as Austria, Denmark, Greece etc. so it's time to bail out and leave the wholly corrupt unworkable mess behind before it really starts to kick off.
The Euro has been an abject failure, the migrant crisis has been handled so badly it's almost comical and neither of those are going to improve anytime soon, and the far Right's on the rise again across most of the Eu-zone, and yet some failure of a US president is given credence in his views?

Self determination is the object of a vote to leave, remaining brings us ever closer to a united Europe and that is a very bad thing. Tman points out the obvious flaws in the move to have a united Europe the number of states, languages and ethnic differences makes it an impossible task. Inevitably each nation would have it's own agenda with it's own best interests and that would preclude any notion of unity.Chewster wrote:Do you people really want Britain to turn into the USA?
