It's unlikely a 9-5 would be needed especially if we end up on a 36 hr week.
Most offices would get their sequenced mail before or around 8.30 am and would probably have enough manual ,D2D and parcel work in to justify an 8.15 start and a 3.15-3.30 pm finish time.
Not a huge difference for most and talk of a 9-5 is just scaremongering.

And how would all the mail arrive at 8am exactly?

A no strings deal is where the rise is given outside of any considerations. This one already has in built considerations (ie To allow further talks)

If the Union were really on the ball there would have been a no strings inflation linked rise added to pay in April. They would then negotiate on other pay increase factors which may or may not include strings such as profitability, productivity, leadership, responsibility etc.

If it is genuinely "no strings" and new money ( not self funding) it's a decent enough offer and not worth a fight to squeeze another maybe a quarter of a percent over one year.

What we don't want is this year's pay settlement dragging on and becoming part of a bigger deal covering the changes royal mail want to implement, that will create a lump sum scenario and we all know what happens to members when a lump sum is offered.

Yes me too, I'd rather have my day off, but they're usually begging me as they have no cover for the rural duties.

No chance! It'd be physically impossible to get it all sequenced for then, and that's without any bulk postings. It's normally around 40-45 mins per batch, that would probably have to be 1hr per batch if RM wanted 1 wave. Sequencing wouldn't start before probably 05:30 by the time all the inward mail has been finished being run through IMPs/iLSMs.

You're basing your position and those silly pointy things on the assumption that while one wave will be the biggest change to hit delivery offices, everything else will remain the same. It won't.

We don't get our mech mail by that time now. Our DO is having 2 new machines put in this weekend making it 6 in total, apparently they are coming out off an under performing office along with their workload so as our mail is the last off we will be getting it even later. One wave won't work some offices won't even get theirs before tea time and who want's to deliver that late. just imagine when the nights draw in some of these inner city estates are dangerous in the day never mind when it's dark.

Just my thoughts. I may be surprised and it all works out fine but can't see it.

It's not as big a change as you think.
5 hr deliveries are pretty common now, add on a 40 min break, travelling time and end of delivery tasks and you're into 6 hr+ territory, My average contracted day is only 7 hrs 40 mins at the moment, just about an hour and a half of indoor time
and with a 35hr week that would come down to 7hrs.

Even in royal mail's wet dream where everything comes in sorted, vans will still have to be loaded, special delivery items picked up from the locker, van checks done and PDAs signed out so the scope to increase deliveries much beyond 5hrs is pretty limited.
