Pay dispute - suspension of industrial action

Following productive talks with Royal Mail this morning and a commitment to meet again next week to discuss an improved pay offer we have agreed to suspend the 24 hours of industrial action scheduled to start at 12.00 (Midday) on Tuesday.

We have not taken this step lightly but it is important to ensure that having made some progress with Royal Mail we would not want to lose any opportunity that is presented.

There have been indications of an improved offer but this does not yet meet our expectations and will be discussed further at the meeting to which both Royal Mail and Unite has committed. This meeting will explore further opportunities for improvement to the offer and whilst nothing is certain we can hope that the company will come back with a better offer.

Having suspended the industrial action we can of course initiate another bout subsequently and advise the business in the usual way.

At this stage can I thank all members and Unite representatives for their huge amount of support and I am sure that you will agree that it is better to explore all options to find a solution.

Members should not take any action next week.

What a load of bollocks, THERE IS NO SUPPORT FOR THIS STRIKE, managers have backed themselves into a corner, RM should tell them there is no pay rise

Just laughable the whole situation! Spineless bunch of fools talk the talk (down) to us but.....
Only full time manager in Unite yet again prepped walks today so people didn't cut off, other 2 pretenders at it run around mopping everything else up, all so p/t don't come in early

Hav,nt a clue but dingo has been very quiet usually our only hope of a sniff of whats happening.

Royal Mail announces that following further detailed discussions with Unite, we have today made an improved offer and committed to further talks going forward.

In addition to further discussions specifically around pay, we have committed to a two-day meeting on Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 June around a list of concerns and challenges from Unite on terms and conditions, ways of working and learning and development.

On the basis of further talks next week, Unite has cancelled the strike action on Tuesday 31 May 2016 and Wednesday 1 June 2016.
