Staff working while on annual leave

I don't know about you but being contracted to 25hrs is crap as Ive been and many other part timers have worked as a full timer for years.

People coming in while on annual leave just means they know they can rely on people like you to do the work rather than hire staff or up part timers contracts!

Yeah I'm a part timer too, on a 20 hour contract working full time most of the time as well. That's precisely why I sometimes work a day or two of my holidays. How can I enjoy a holiday when I'm at half pay? I'll be buggered if I'm going to sit at home for up to 3 weeks and have to pinch my pennies because I'm getting pretty much half the pay of most of my colleagues.

I agree that RM and individual offices need to pull the finger out and hire the appropriate amount of staff and doss out full time contracts to those of us who should really have them, but I'm not in any sort of position to be turning down overtime for the sake of making a point like that......and if I was I certainly wouldn't be a postie!

Yeah I understand what you mean and fair enough. Luckily I'm alright with my hrs cut back when I'm on holiday. Part timers just get used and abused because they know we need the extra hours and this shouldn't happen.

It's "buggad" because there are hard working individuals willing to do extra work that needs done and in turn save their workmates from a day of lapsing?

Why would someone coming in and working a day during their annual leave save anyone from lapsing? Lapsing should only be done when there is capacity to do so.

Part time is a bit of a nightmare. I literally only want 20 hours and they go out of their way to make that as difficult as possible. They make rude comments if I cut off, or I'm considered 'lazy'. So during the leave I wouldn't dream of coming in. However, I totally understand that people who work full time on a part time contract have a raw deal during the holidays and work during it. Part time contracts don't seem to work in this line of work.

due to staff illnesses some people were doing both walks including throwing off both and only getting paid 6 hours on top saving the office 1hour 48 mins, absolute numpties

Guy done that in our office two weeks ago but it was a Tuesday when he threw off two walks and delivered them got 6 hours he was finished for 2 30pm paid till 8 pm that night! I would'nt call him a numptie in fact a clever F***ker he was..Good luck to him I say eastie I wouldn't be able to do two walks, some people are that lazy in my office they moan all day about doing one walk..Others go crying to managers if their name is not on the overtime list.

Yeah that annoys me too. I'm on 20 hours but in reality I want full time as I've said numerous times. The bosses know that. And most of the time, I'm getting those full time hours, but quite often they put me on a duty that's only 5.5 hours a day. They know I don't like that, and meanwhile there are others in the office who are doing full time duties but, like yourself, they want to go down to part time!

RM really do appear to go out of their way to displease as many people as possible.

Totally agree, they should ask everyone who wants OT and who doesn't. Loads of people in my office want it but don't get it, then I make it clear I don't and they seem irritated. Makes no sense.

I know of 2 who are working all week whilst on annual leave,they've picked a premium week off then someone I know wanted this week off for their kids holiday and got refused
they did mention it to management and cwu to ask for it to be swapped but both basically said tough and they need those willing to work to do so and the 2 postmen won't as they want double pay this week.
