The SWP nationally I would not touch but locally we have a couple of activists who are also postmen, and they have been the most active during the strikes. Also locally the SWP have attended every picket showing us support
- but also selling their newspapers.

I'm no fan of the politics of the SWP, but this has been one dispute which, from what I've seen, they haven't tried to turn into a recruiting campaign. Their paper has been very suppotive, certainly more so than Weakly Worker, which seems to just want to slag off everyone else on the left and offer no support to the working class. Fair play to the ordinary SWP members, and the coverage given by Charlie Kimber, Yuri Prassad et al.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:The SWP nationally I would not touch but locally we have a couple of activists who are also postmen, and they have been the most active during the strikes. The deal the facts
I'd be very surprised if the report is inaccurate - remember, the President of the CWU is a member of the SWP.

Re: The deal the facts
I have a feeling that it won't be a million miles from the truth. Then again it may just be a smokescreen - publish that and the real crap deal won't seem as bad - however would the Pres have that amount of intelligence. No that really is pretty close to the mark.rathbonepostie wrote:I'd be very surprised if the report is inaccurate - remember, the President of the CWU is a member of the SWP.

You are right the president is a member of the SWP. Pity she can get information to the SWP but not out to the members who put her where she is!!!!dvbuk55 wrote:I have a feeling that it won't be a million miles from the truth. Nothing wrong with telling the truth in plain English , even Scargill told the truth about what McGregor was proposing to do.dvbuk55 wrote:I have a feeling that it won't be a million miles from the truth. how to combat the deal
Even if these details are not exact, it seems that the CWU leadership is not exactly fighting all guns blazing against a compromise deal over key aspects so there will be some pretty bad things in the deal (when it finally comes through).
If it is as bad as it looks then the campaign for a no vote must be co-ordinated nationally - the PEC will co-ordinate a yes vote, members will get loads of propaganda with their voting card telling them what a great deal it is and how they should vote for it.
CWU members who are against the deal must take action to make sure that the other point of view is heard, not just on forums like this (and the facebook group, etc) but through meetings in workplaces where the alternative point of view can be put across.
If the deal does come through and it is rotten then steps must be taken to organise a national meeting of posties opposed to the deal, otherwise as other people said, many posties will just go with the flow and even believe the pro deal propaganda coming through. The danger is that a no vote comes through but only by a small margin, taking the wind out of the sales of any future strike action.

If there is a YES vote, then all posties should accept it, not organise a national meeting coz they didnt like the result, theres some things i didnt like but have had to put up with (the way forward agreement being the prime example) because it was done democratically, are you saying that if someone who voted against this strike and the majority was in favour of a strike, then that person/persons have a legitimate argument for going into work as a protest against the outcome?
If this deal does come in then its upto the reps etc to make the best of what many of us believe is gonna be a bad situation......

yeah my post was to suggest a meeting to co-ordinate a no vote campaign. It seems like a rank and file meeting is being organised for Sunday 28th, the details are on another thread.

To be honest i dont think you would need to co-ordinate a no vote ? any one in their own mind could see what a load sh*t it is and to think we went on strike for this crap, I'd say sack the PEC or the PEC members who will voted or this SH*TDanteSH wrote:yeah my post was to suggest a meeting to co-ordinate a no vote campaign.
