Sorry but that won't always work. As long as the dismissal is fair and reasonable, Royal Mail can sack you for a conduct issue even when you are off sick. Although it might delay it a few days as they'd have to check with senior managers, HR and their own legal eagles.
You're right, it would only delay the inevitable, that said, if Royal mail is going to play fast and loose with the rules, it cuts both ways and there is nothing to lose.
For some its a slap on the wrist, for others you would get sack for the same thing, depending on how much of a favourite you are and these days you have to be just as ruthless as the managers themselves can be. You don't get prizes for being honest and upstanding these days, it would only be used against you, thats what you get these days cynical managements creates cynical workers.

great advice... not. No wonder people who are off with genuine illness get hassle when there people advocating advice like this. doing things like this just as you say "to drag it out" this is dishonest in my opinion.

If you don't want me to comment then you shouldn't be advocating the op being dishonest in my opinion by claiming to be sick to drag things out and get extra pay he is not entitled to

Sorry but you are advocating claiming sick pay when it's not entitled, that's not only cheating rm out of money but the tax payer as well, you may feel I shouldn't challenge that, but hey you want me to ignore you, maybe when you are not advocating cheating the tax payer out of money I may do so, or do you think it's ok to falsely claim sick pay?
