Yeah right - next to no mail on a Tuesday and people finishing at the same time as a Wed when there's 3 times the amount of mail. Traffic volumes should determine lapsing, not how fast or how slow people do their walks.DocketLefty wrote:stop coming back early and we wouldn't be lapsing. silly people.

Do the job by the book. Don't come in early, don't nest D2Ds, take all your breaks, do your daily vehicle checks, use a trolley, don't read and walk at same time, close all gates, don't take short-cuts across properties, try a minimum of 2 neighbours for all undeliverable packets. You'll probably struggle to complete even on a Tuesday.motherhubbard wrote:How do you stop coming back early if you don't have sufficient work to take you to the end of your contracted hours?DocketLefty wrote:stop coming back early and we wouldn't be lapsing. silly people.

I'd like a copy to show my local rep :)dingo wrote:Instead of blaming people , please recognise that Royal Mail demanded in 2007 that people work all their paid for hours. The CWU could not on one hand demand more pay but say we support people finishing early and not working their hours.
The concern is some 9 years later some on here do not actually understand the pay and mod agreement in regards to absorption and resourcing. This includes
1 absorption can only take place where there is spare capacity.
2. Absorption should not make an individual go past their time or cut off.
3. Absorption should not take place if this means the prep for the part timer does not get done.
4. There should be no ad hoc absorption on the day.
5. Resourcing meetings should take 2 weeks in advance.
6. No individual should be taken off their own walk to create absorption unless agreed by the rep.
If any of the above are not being adhered too your rep can use the IR framework.
The reality is that Royal Mail do believe that individuals finish early on certain days. This is why they intend to introduce Production Control which similar to the RFID scanners , these will ensure all OPGs clock in and out not just at the start and end of the day but after every task IPS , prep and meal relief etc. The new PDA trails have shown that the mapping of individuals on walks will assist Royal Mail to offering Predict to customers in the next 12 months which will mean a 15 minute window for delivery to customers.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

If you have more than sufficient indoor hours to complete your IPS and prep then your indoor work is finished early and you are ready to dispatch before your designated time.norm wrote:Do the job by the book. Therefore even if you do all of the above you still have surplus time in which to lapse.
The response to a lot of people on this board to having to work all their paid hours is to just work slower.
It isn't a trade union value I respect.
You go to work. You do an honest days work. (for which you are paid handsomely) You go home.

Let me get this clear, the DOM isn't supposed to send someone home to create absorption because the mail is lighter than they forecast?

It's a common practice to send Part Timers to other offices. Doesn't seem to make sense but those other offices are probably struggling more than yours is? I know it rubs salt in the wound to be sent somewhere else when you do have work in your own office, but the Management are looking at the Big Picture across the Region. Make sure your DOM sends other people as well, otherwise you'll always be the one getting messed about! Should be volunteers first then Reserves, if you're a Part Timer covering a single duty ....I'm not sure how that works? Probably makes no difference!Pathfinder wrote:In our office there's 2 guys who often get sent to other offices yes there's 2 rounds that are absorbed nearly every day if he week, is this normal?

Yeah that's true. Surely it would make more sense to send a full timer, part timers will always work their hours if they don't want to be elsewhere.
Would get more done sending a full timer (a full round maybe)? Whereas the part timer will only do a few rows.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining

Tried to send one of our 20 hour Guys to another office. No problem...... 30 mins there.......30 mins back.....20 mins Meal Relief..... That leaves me 2 hrs 50 mins work!
Surprise Surprise....... the other DOM decided he didn't want him!
