Postal workers in Liverpool walked out unofficially last Wednesday over a complaint about management. They had not gone back in as Socialist Worker went to press on Tuesday.

Some 50 workers at Liverpool’s Crosby delivery office are involved in the action, affecting deliveries in the Crosby, Waterloo and Thornton areas.

Reps from the workers’ CWU union were set to meet with management for talks.

Scottish posties vote for strike to defend worker

Postal workers in Scotland have voted to strike in defence of a sacked colleague.

Members of the CWU union’s Scotland No 2 branch are demanding that bosses reinstate David Mitchell from Cupar, Fife.

He was sacked in 2014.

Their strike could involve some 3,000 workers in Edinburgh, Lothians, Stirling, the Borders, Glenrothes and Fife.

An employment tribunal judge ordered David’s reinstatement.

But bosses ignored the tribunal’s rulings. CWU conference this week passed a motion supporting Scotland No 2 branch.

Royal Mail managers vote for strike over pay

Managers in Royal Mail have voted to strike in a fight over pay.

The members of the Unite union voted by 78 percent to strike and 93 percent for action short of strike.

It comes after the managers voted to reject a pay offer of 1.3 percent.

Unite has said the pay dispute is part of a wider set of problems in Royal Mail since privatisation.

Unite officer Brian Scott said, “We could be talking about an all-out strike, but in the first instance, we are likely to call members to work to rule.”
