I've been saying this for ages. Managers are shooting themselves in the foot doing all the lapsing. RM will just say, if you can do that, you may as well be a postie.

Do those cretins actually believe that going on strike will make one iota of difference to how well an office runs? If required, I'll be 'going the extra mile' to make sure my delivery goes smoothly on the day(s) the deluded muppets are on the gate.

To be honest, I'd love to know the politics behind this. The managers' union - the CMA, Unite, whatever - has always been timid to invisible. Now they feel they have a strong enough hand to at least ballot for a strike. Is it confidence, desperation or what?

Royal Mail managers are renowned for their poor decision making and they have picked the worst time in Royal Mail's 500 year history to go on strike.
They have zero leverage in any pay talks with Royal Mail and like other industries they can soon be replaced by team leaders for a fraction of the cost.
Also I am not sure how well the strike action will be observed the managers.

Most people have been waiting for something like this for years and will bust a gut to make them look bad.

trouble is, will the DOM report the office as failed even if you clear it all that day ? probably.. if he finds a letter he probably could do it so you prob wasting your time and effort.

Managers Pay – Unite/RM Joint Statement

Following discussion yesterday I have been working on a joint statement between Unite and Royal Mail and I am pleased to set out the agreed text of that below.

“Following intense exchanges yesterday (Thursday) Royal Mail and Unite have made very good progress on pay and a negotiators agreement has been reached for a two year pay deal, the details of which are being concluded.

Royal Mail will provide full proposals in writing including commitments to work together with the union to resolve long standing concerns that Unite and its members' have.

In response Unite will suspend its work to rule, overtime ban and other potential industrial action with immediate effect.

Unite will be putting the proposed agreement to its members in a ballot as soon as arrangements can be made.

Both parties are pleased with the outcome which secures a pay increase for Unite members, stability for the company and a commitment to service to customers.

It will take a few days to put together the fuller communications that will explain the deal on offer and for the consultative ballot to be arranged.

In the meantime thank you for your support which has enabled us to get to this proposed agreement.
