A POSTAL worker gave a Bridport resident an unexpected delivery when a van crashed through a fence and became wedged on a 10-ft wall.
Police were called to the incident at just before 11am this morning after the Royal Mail van damaged the fence near to Bridport Community Hospital.
Eye witnesses spotted the bizarre incident, and the van was left in place for almost four hours before it was recovered.
One bystander said: “I have no idea how he managed it. It really must have taken some effort to get that far up the wall.”
Another person said: "Luckily no-one was injured - but I'm sure the driver got a bit of a shock, as I'm sure did the owner of the property."
A spokeswoman from Dorset Police said: “We were called to the scene at 10.59am to a single vehicle road traffic collision on Hospital Lane in Bridport.
“A red Peugeot van registered to a company in Derbyshire was involved and the driver was out of the vehicle when police arrived.
“The front of the van was up on a wall and the rear of it was on the ground below a 10-ft drop. Damage was caused to a property and recovery teams were called to the scene at 1.48pm. The incident has now been dealt with.“
The Royal Mail confirmed the company was working with officers, following the incident.
A spokesman said: “We can confirm that a Royal Mail van was involved in an accident on Hospital Lane, Bridport earlier today.
“We are co-operating fully with Police at the scene.”
