Doesn't seem like there's all much money (overall) spent on those old allowances given the size of the offer that's funded from them. And given that the amount will be shrinking year-on-year, I can see ultimately it being a good idea for the CWU to negotiate keeping the money and consolidating it across everyone's pay. (Not great news for anyone still receiving said allowance(s) at the time of course.) However even allowing for this being the RM's opening offer, it's still a shockingly bad one!tansorboy wrote:Good idea to get rid of all the old allowances, imho. All the rounds are the same, aren't they? So why should some people earn more than others? Especially failed phgs....

Perhaps we can also share out one persons overtime with somebody who does none at all.toomuchcoke wrote:Doesn't seem like there's all much money (overall) spent on those old allowances given the size of the offer that's funded from them. Or just not come in 2 hours early everyday and if we do get a vote use it and use your brain but that must confuse those who don't get paid for their time.Midnight+13 wrote:Time for everyone employed by Royal Mail to "find a Pair and vote for IA!

I'd sign away the Productivity Bonus Scheme.....because we never get one!
We must be pretty crap as I believe they've only paid us about 2 over the last 5 years of so!( Go on tell me it's only been effect for that last 3 years). I do believe there's some anomaly that prevents us getting one unless...it's a perfect week.
God knows how some guys can "Rely" on a PBS....you guys must be Shite Hot!

PBS is an old payment.Dorset Plodder wrote:

It was something you got relating to savings your office made years and years ago. It is paid monthly (I think) and never changes.
Mine is about £12.
It has nothing to do with current performance and where people have transferred they keep the payment relating to their old office (I think)

payrise insult.
the rep said today they offered a pay rise of 0.03%. obviously it was rejected as farcical, but it shows what they think of us. about £1.20 a week rise. lol. the gall of them. testing the water I think, just to gage our response.

Read the announcement at top of page it was actual a 0.37 percent rise, and the reason for it being that amount is on the announcement, it effectively was no pay rise at all with some allowances people get paid getting redistributed to everyone

I realise that what people are saying about losing ANY money is a sensitive argument. However I can also see why the Business is trying to get rid of some of these Old Historical payments. If they're no longer relevant, and no longer have to be "Earned" (for want of a better word) then surely there's no reason for them to continue?
I'm sure we've all lost allowances over the years. I moved DOs and lost the Early Start & Difficult Recruiting Allowances. And we all remember the Cock Up over changes to the Household Payments, whose Brainwave was it to ask EVERYONE, instead of just those concerned with sorting and delivering the Bloody Things?
Perhaps they could phase some allowances out over a couple of years?

Welcome to working for a ftse 100 listed company. Strike and be replaced by a workforce on £7.20 and RM will be laughing all the way to the bank. Take a look at any job site and see how many people earn anything like £10+ an hour and what skills they are expected to have and the responsibility attached.

Why do you see the validity in "perhaps they could phase some allowances out"? Either you don't receive any historical allowances or you like the idea of a share of other people's allowances, or both. If the reason is non of these then why would you wish to deny fellow CWU members important allowances?Dorset Plodder wrote:I realise that what people are saying about losing ANY money is a sensitive argument. Legacy allowances going into basic pay is generally considered by the union to be a good thing, as people leave these allowances leave with them and are lost forever. In basic pay we have them forever and they are pensionable.
This wouldn't be the first time, shift allowance in delivery went into the delivery supplement. Of course this will affect members in processing and distribution far more.
