Post workers should 'Reject the deal, keep fighting until we win'
Here is a response from Socialist Worker supporters in the Royal Mail to the management offer as details of the deal became public.

The deal discussed by the union’s postal executive on Monday and Tuesday would sweep away crucial rights, steal our pensions, clear the way for more bullying, and give managers even more power to order us about.

It is a threat to us all and to the public service. Crucially it is silent on key issues like what happens over disciplinaries and mail centre closures.

Does this really measure up to the sacrifice we’ve made? Does it match the fighting spirit of the strikes, or the courage of those who have stood on picket lines – officially and unofficially?

It doesn’t, and we should reject it. Some of the proposed deal’s main points are:

Pensions
Pension age to rise to 65. Present scheme members could still retire at 60, but would have to accept “actuarial reductionsâ€

Billions spent on Iraq and Afghanistan, Billions spent on housing and paying benefit to bogus asylum seekers and Illegal immigrants, Remploy closing down units throwing vulnerable adults on the streets, Tax burden the highest for 22 years, I am sure there a few bob or two to spare to pay for our rises AND Pension, Public sector workers are being squeezed by Robber Brown by imposing below inflation pay deals, who is also going to sell us down the river to the EU, this government and previous Governments raked BILLIONS off us some of which is our pension money, they should return it with interest.

Workers can also be asked to go to ‘nearby offices’, and to do ‘other work outside their normal duties’.

Yeah, cause I'm trained on ALL the deliveries in our nearest office aren't I? Or even the nearest mail centre - I know how them machines work perfectly...


I don't care whether the deal is accepted or not by the PEC. When it gets sent to my house, it's getting a no, as it will by many more posties.

Unfortunately, I can see it being accepted by the majority. Aside from those working during strikes anyway, the posties that are just "going with the flow" and aren't really paying much attention to the deal will all vote yes, so that they don't have to strike again...

Of course, this is where the local reps will have a major part to play, as well as the rest of us that are totally against Royal Mail's dinosaur management plans.

The fact that they are still talking means it is a load of s**t and not telling us about it for so long is awfull. Not only has Robber Brown sold us down the river he did it yesterday to the country in Lisbon so much for a referendum on Europe eh Mr Brown. i for one will be rejecting this deal if you can call it that... what an absolute joke of a deal...i didnt know wether to laugh or cry at this..
my hubby will also be voting no to this aswell...
and speaking to my collegues in edinburgh they will also be voting no..
royal mail management should be by this so called offer

I think the SWP are using the rejected offer that was on the table when we back last wednesday and therefore mischeif making.


I will not fight the SWP political/ideological war for them!
