Anger over delay to replace out-of-service postbox in Broughton

The box outside Broughton Post Office on Broughton Hall Road has been out of use for around five months after the front door was damaged and came apart.

Former councillor Klaus Armstrong-Braun said residents had been left angry about the delays to replace the box.

He said: “The postbox was old and the door fell off it but it has now been like that for 19 weeks and the postbox has not been given a new one yet.

“When the post office closes in the evening, we cannot put any letters into the post.

“We have to hand all of our letters into the post office, which can take a long time and can only be done during working hours.”

A spokesman for Royal Mail said they were planning to replace the postbox.

They said: “We can confirm that we will be replacing the damaged postbox outside Broughton Post Office in Flintshire.

“We intend to put the replacement postbox in the same location, but we are waiting for checks on underground utility cabling that may have been installed, since the original box was fitted.

“We apologise to customers for the inconvenience and would ask them to use the nearest posting facilities, including handing mail over the counter at the post office, until the new box is installed.”
