A POSTMAN from Cheltenham has turned into a real-life superhero after he helped save a baby that had fallen from a window.
Wes Green, 38, of River Leys in Swindon Village was doing his usual rounds in the Reddings on Tuesday morning when the sight of a distraught grandmother sent him into action.
Wes said: "I was just walking past the house when the grandmother came out in floods of tears."
When Wes rushed into the house in Roxton Drive, he found a toddler on top of the conservatory- the child had fallen around five feet from a bedroom window onto the conservatory roof.
Mr Green said: "He was crying and I couldn't reach him that well as he was about six feet from me."
The postman who works from the Swindon Road Royal Mail office had to clamber out of the window in order to reach the child.
After some gentle coaxing, Wes managed to get the distressed toddler to come closer to the window and he managed to grab down and bring them to safety.
At around six foot, it was fortunate that Wes wasn't any shorter or the task would have been made much tougher.
After the incident he spoke to some of his colleagues who said that for some of them who stand at just over five foot, they wouldn't have been able to tackle the challenge.
It is understood that the toddler was unhurt in the fall, Wes said: "The child and his grandmother quickly calmed down once they were reunited."
His friends were taken aback when they heard what had happened, but they praised his chivalry and quick-thinking.
He said: "It makes a difference to the usual rounds that I have to do, dealing with dogs and giving people directions.
"I'm just glad that it finished with a happy ending, it was a nice end to the day."
Wes has taken a lot of stick from his co-workers for his successful superhero actions, but he was happy to take the ribbing for such a worthy cause.
He said: "Of all the things you can joke about, this is a bit unusual to the norm and at least it wasn't me messing up for once."
After 15 years of service, he said that this was the most dramatic day of work he has faced and hoped that there wouldn't be any repeats of the incident.
