I think a lot of us are labouring under the false impression that ALL Delivery Offices are the same, and ALL work under the same systems. There's a Thousand different DOs out there! There's some well organised DOs out there and some Posties, with the help of motivated Union Reps, have stuck to their guns and got properly organised duties. :thumbup

There's also some Bloody Horrendous DOs that have oversized deliveries, insufficient staffing levels, ineffective Union Reps and uninformed staff (who don't know their entitlements)! :thumbdown

We shouldn't be too eager to discount other Posties observations.....just because that doesn't hold true in our own DOs. We all know Posties that have "Nice" duties and just seem to get less problems than others. Strange how those New Posties, who get the Crap Duties ( with all the little problems that go with them), always finishing late and still getting hassle from the DOM, are "Forgotten" by those who have a better deal? Yet we're all meant to work for the same Company? :hmmmm

Well said DP...... Just because its not so bad where you work MH does not mean that other posties at other offices are not going through the mill day in and day out.

Actually, I stick up for myself and always have done. Unfortunately I get precious little backing from the union now and have to face down managers myself now. I went to the top of the union with a recent greivance and it all petered out lower down. Too many union reps want an easy ride or are not up to the job. I see the subtle intimidation and bullying daily from managers who are getting increasingly aggressive. It is of course all manipulated from the top down. I'm over 30 years in this job and can't believe how things have deteroriated in the last 12 months. I don't care really because I retire soon, but you should. If you think it's a good job, it won't be soon and it's up to union members to stick together and not be intimidated. You may not work for Amazon but you might well be working for them soon, or with their terms and conditions.

Try Amazon if you're not happy mate. Far worse jobs out there.
Oh, and another thing! We used to all be finished by lunchtime after doing two deliveries, but that's progress for you!

Actually working all the hours you are paid for and not carrying over laden bags is progress. I can't count the number of people in our office with long term injuries due to years of running around with heavy bags desperate to finish early.

We compensated for the low wage by finishing early and some had part time jobs in the afternoon. Nobody should have been carrying overweight bags, they did it by choice. In any case, job and finish was the culture, and the job got done. You work in a private industry now which is highly competitive and are being paid well above the going rate for the job. How long do you think that will last?

So what is the going rate for the job that we do seeing as no-one else does it except us?

You're having a laugh aren't you Binsey? Minimum Wage (or Living Wage as it is now)! We can't get anyone to do this job with our current wage, are they likely to do it for less money? Perhaps Royal Mail are looking forward to this vast influx of Syrian refugees? :hmmmm

Maybe ask your paymaster - Royal Mail! They might have other ideas. A private company now and shareholders to keep happy. Dream on!
