Scab sorting office
Just read this on the SW website.............
Shut down this scab Royal Mail sorting office
Royal Mail has set up a sorting office in Southgate, north London, which is entirely staffed by non-union scab labour and managers.
Its purpose is to sort mail that is not being handled because of strikes. Royal Mail would also be able to punish an office for going on strike by shifting their work to it.
Union activists have resolved not to handle any work going to or coming from the office, which is based on the Brunswick business park, off Waterfall Road, London N11.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bosses in Liverpool attempted to use students as strikebreakers during last week’s strike. More than 300 students were bussed through picket lines at the Copperas Hill mail centre.
The students were recruited by the Workbank agency, which has partnership arrangements with Liverpool John Moores University, De Montfort University (Leicester), University of Leicester, University of East London, and Staffordshire University (Stoke on Trent).
“Students should campaign against this agency being allowed to recruit strikebreakers on campuses,â€

They have set a similar place up in the Morth-West not sure of its location. All packets are being diverted there. Surely this has to be legally challenged in the courts. Temporary staff given short term contracts, this is an attempt to break the strike action. We have enough loopholes to jump through before we even start a strike. Then again we are talking about new labour and get back to work Gordon. My dad never crossed a picket line nor will I. Told the kids Christmas may be a little bleak, they are proud of us making a stance, unlike the majority of poorly paid people who don't have a choice.

Eh?
I thought you could only call them strike breakers if an official strike was on??? Last time I looked PEC called off the strike so this sorting centre is quite legit... you may not like it but it's legal so chill out until your union tell you what's what about the deal...
Also, the closed shop agreements of 70/80's are long dead, so if someone don't want to join then that's their freewill or do you believe in bullying and threatning someone??? The same thing you bleat about RM managers do to you!

Re: Eh?

Thing is the strike breakers will get the same deal as us - THAT IS WHY THEY ARE LOW LIFEblackadder wrote:wise words indeed. we all know what the closed shop did to british industry in the 1970s. bye bye steel, shipbuilding, coal, dockers, car building and i could go on. yeah we dont like strike breakers but we live in a country of free speech sumfing my grandad fought for , oh and his dad and his dad. some of us have morals by standing for our rites, if the strike breakers wana go in fine. we should make sure that they dont get a good deal like us after we signed the new aggrementbonehead_2002 wrote:I thought you could only call them strike breakers if an official strike was on??? They are treated better than us.
One individual in our office first step on the management trail was to walk through a picket line, he was a manager within a month. Reward for scabbing. He was also the most incompetent Postman i have come across & turned willful delay into an art form as well as the other stunts he got up to. The union had saved his job previously on more than one occasion. I also don't believe in this country there is free speech (our grandads were lied to) try speaking your mind at work about the strike breakers & tell me if i'm wrong.

Scabbing operations wreck strikes - it is not just a case of let them be, they are set up to undermine the unions actions, to break the strike. There will not be a good deal if the strikes fail, simple as that.
I do not think it was the closed shop that shut those industries, it was the British government because they wanted to restructure the economy to make it more profitable. The closed shop was a powerful union weapon to prevent strike breakers and management lackeys undermining the collective work of the union. Back to the closed shop is what I say!we all know what the closed shop did to british industry in the 1970s. bye bye steel, shipbuilding, coal, dockers, car building and i could go on

So are you suggesting that this extra office has only been set up and running since Friday . . . . . don't be so naive . . . . .it is a scab office and that's why Royal Mail are keeping it so quiet . . . . . as for it being legal, I believe the unions lawyers are looking into that right now, so it may not be so clear cut
Together we stand, divided we fall

Re: Eh?
A strike is a strike, official or unofficial. A scab is a scab, the lowest form of life in any workplace. Now, lobby one of your fellow scab lovingbonehead_2002 wrote:I thought you could only call them strike breakers if an official strike was on??? More like Crazy Mary...
Dirty: you can hold whatever view you like, coz that's what makes the world such great place to live in!
As for Tory/Neo Labour, it's your fault and your bloody union subs which got Lab back only to have TB as male Maggie to f**k you over! So where next? LibDems?
Greens?
BNP?
(Well at least they want us out of the EU and support British firms)
So start you're own party or advocate revolution in the UK (I feel a song coming on...
). But Mondeo Man has got too comfortable and too worried about mortgage rates and crap schools to be really bothered about all this nonsense.
As for anti-union laws, if Wilson had let Babs Castle get In Place of Strife on the statutes the UK would've been a far better place and Maggie wouldn't have got to No10 and inflict the damage she did.
Why don't you dig up Red Robbo to run the CWU and turn RM into the new British Leyland producing a s**t product that no one wants but the workforce can be "proud" as we all get our P45's... Dirty for PM
So glad you lot won't ever run a multi-billion company...
