Anything with a scannable bar code gets scanned.

I think people who deliver to firms will find it takes a lot longer.
Where before you could just put everything in a sack and hand it over, you will now need to check everything before delivery.
No it isn't, it's just parcels with a bar code, not large letters.
Yet.....

Remember Royal Mail's favourite line is 'it will take less than a minute'

Bit by bit, little by little and before you know it you have 30 different procedures added onto you over a few year that all 'take you less than a minute'
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Working for Royal Mail is a bit like being a lobster that's lowered into a pot of warm water. At first, it seems pleasant, but then they slowly turn up the heat by adding little bits here there and everywhere, until eventually you are boiling to death.

Recorded Delivery letters and Special Delivery letters sometimes now have both barcodes.
We have been told to scan the 2D barcode wherever possible and only use the 1D barcode if it fails to scan.
Our workplace coach instructed us to scan the large letters as well whenever possible. Maybe he is wrong.
But if the barcode doesn't need to be scanned, why is it there?

I'm assuming that the only time these items will be scanned will be at the delivery point and at no other point in the pipeline? Where is the audit trail or is RM just going to take customers at their word that items have been put into the pipeline but not delivered? Do they need to be scanned if P739 issued? Just seems to me that customers (i.e companies/individuals) will be receiving a free service somewhat comparable to Amazon's 'Scanned as Delivered' items. As Amazon send 'ordinary' items through our pipeline am I right to assume that they pay us a £ premium for such scans over and above an identical item not marked 'Scanned as Delivered' and just delivered as normal. And if this is the case then are RM not exploiting another source of revenue in these troubled times.

We shall see just how easy the items with just the new bar code are going to scan especially if the label is folded/printed on cheap inkjet printer.

As this new technology gets implemented, I can see us getting parcels with both a 1D and 2D barcode. And which barcode should we scan?

Maybe we could scan both. But there is no doubt that the job is getting ever more difficult. Tracked items that sometimes require a signature, then there are recorded items that have a white sticker that look like specials and don't even get me started on this stupid foreign barcodes that come through as 'Specials' especially the clever Chinese ones that have an essay written on the front of them, so you can't find the address.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

We got a little booklet about it.
You always try to scan the 2D barcode first. It contains more information.
You only use the 1D barcode if the 2D barcode doesn't scan.

Royal Mails first survival rule, Scan everything, if you scan it and it doesn't need it never mind, if you fail they will kick you in the arse for not doing so. If it all takes time, so be it, we only have so many hours in the day. Best way to protect jobs it to fill your day with as much as you possibly can.

It all makes sense now. That's why they changed the fleeces from blue to red.
The machine stops.
