By the end of March, 500 new Royal Mail trailers will be on the road, replacing older, leased models.

As well as injecting a fresh, new look into the fleet, the trailers - a mix of tandem, tri-axle, curtain side and tail lift models – will give us the flexibility we need to meet our customers’ requirements.

The new trailers will be deployed across the country, so all our drivers – from Cornwall to Scotland – will benefit from the improved reliability that comes from having brand new kit.

A number of them also feature our new livery – 16 billion items delivered safely and securely – using our vehicles to promote the Royal Mail brand.

State-of-the-art

The trailers will be pulled by 35 new motive units (the cab front that pulls the trailers) offering state-of-the-art safety features such as a lane departure warning system, which automatically sounds a warning if the truck deviates from its lane, and adaptive cruise control that applies automatic emergency braking.

In addition to the 500 replacement trailers, we’re also introducing a number of new, double decker trailers.

Logistics director Euan McMurdo said: This is a fantastic investment in our fleet, which I know our drivers and customers will appreciate.

‘Adding to the depth of our trailers puts us in an excellent position to accommodate a range of customer requirements, in terms of the size and weight of items we transport. And the fantastic features and benefits of our new motive units ensure safety remains our top priority.’

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

"16 billion items delivered safely and securely" sounds good - except that it begs the question how many items AREN'T delivered safely and securely ?
And lets hope that the lane departure warning system, which automatically sounds a warning if the truck deviates from its lane, doesn't lead to complacency in terms of staying alert. :cuppa

I'm just imagining the photos in the press the first time one of these breaks down or hits something - "Not so safe and securely parked on the M25..."

Curious how we're getting 500 trailers but only 35 new tractor units to pull them!

Yes, i was thinking the same. Guess instead of being pulled by new state of the art units the rest are going to be pulled by the clapped out old wrecks !!
