working my hours so put on performance monitor - need advice

Post by opgpat »

This week have been working my hours cause I don't wanna do past my time (longterm part timer 6hrs per day) and have got nothing but s**t from line manager.

Example - Monday wasn't ready to go till 10:30 (after an 8am start) so with 30mins for getting out and back, a 30 min break and 10 mins to tidy up at end of shift that gives 1hr and 50 mins delivery time.

So I delivered 4 correctly weighted bags and cut off two - told wasn't good enough. been the same tuesday and wenesday this week. today i was took into office and told me from next week I'm on a performance monitoring for about 10weeks.

Any advice on how this monitoring will happen and how i can get these managers off my back? I just don't wanna do OT anymore but they keep telling me i should be able to complete the delivery in like 2 1/2hrs!

Get your rep on to those lackeys, if you've no rep, contact your branch.

You are in the union, I take it ?

Your manager is just trying it on there is no way he/she can do performance monitoring for about 10weeks. He/she would have to do the same on a number of other duties and any one doing the same duty as you very time consuming and also harassment, if you look through this site there is advice about all the different test a manager may try but at the end of the day he/she is just talking bullshit

What size round are you on? I do a 6 hour day started del at 9.41 am took me 3 and a half hours. My duty is 0630 til 1230. Booked 1 hour overtime no questions asked. Not very familar with prep frame but have full experince/training on the delivery element of duty. Had 3 pouches around 16 kg in weight.

:cfo :lfo Your DIM is playing with your mind. Start talking about bullying & harassment and the grievance procedure. Get a rep in and demand your rights under industrial law. He/she is exploiting your inexperience. Be confident!!! Say you have taken advice and want a rep. Refuse to go into the office without a witness/rep. Your DIM will back off and pick on someone who else who is feeble minded. -------------KAWAK :cuppa :cuppa

Full support with you.

I'm on average 2h a day OT and since the last lot of strikes have spoke to the line manager about wanting to finnish on time. It also takes me over an hour to get home so getting back at 5-6pm. Yet though I've voiced this concern the line manager has on many a time not got around to sorting out ample support and I leave the office with the full load (usually 4-6 bags at 10kg - 16kg).

They can't force us to do OT so what can be done?

Dear "opgpat" I can sympathise with your situation as I am also in a similar position to you, and on the same hours.

How to deal with it? I got some very good advice from the local union rep - make sure you follow "correct" procedures - keep your manager informed if he/she is asking you to take out an "impossible" delivery. By doing this you are covering your own back so there is NO comebacks, and NO discipline measures to worry about.

I know it's hard, and you don't want to be seen as a continual winger, but it is the only thing you can do. Good luck. As long as we do the job right there is nothing they can do. Good luck...again!

Have all walks in your office been equalized to meet the 3.5 hour delivery speck
if so thats your answer it cant be completed in 2.5 hours

with your rep in tow ask him to show you Royal Mail guide lines that says a member of staff can be monitored for 10 weeks because he wants to work to his time

And guess what he wont be able to
Tell him if he persists to try and force you to work over your time you will consider it Harassment
keep a diary in your pocket and any time you are approached by him take it out and write down what he says to you it will soon piss him off

1 more thing if you are not a union member join as the majority of managers take things like working to your time or standing upto them personal
There is always help at hand make sure you have a contact number for another local office rep should yours not be available or the area reps number

Keep Up The Fight

As well as using the union rep and the harrassment procedure (very useful), it might be worth asking the manager, preferably in the presence of a union rep, to demonstrate to you how your duty can be done in the alloted time with so much mail on. 100% nailed on the fekker won't know what to do with itself.

Stand firm. You are in the right.

cheers for the support and advice guys it helps to know you guys are trying to do the job properly as well and im not just being a dick. In union yes but not had time to ask rep about this as its happened so quick and we r a big DO

the walks are all upposed to be 3 1/2 hrs yes but manager keeps saying the regular guy from the walk i'm on at the mo does it in 3hrs. I say he must be takin over weight bags and rushin round but the manager just repeats himself. Today i had 7 friggin bags to do in 2hrs 40mins! unbelievable. always booked the OT before now and not had any complaints about performance but :cfo :lfo put a stop to that. will take cwu diary in tommorrow and get it out to make notes see what the reaction is! there is some 'paper work' coming my way next week and i will take your advice and ask a rep to come with me when they show me it. :cfo :lfo

Ask for it in writing. Either he'll back down and you won't hear of it again, or you'll get it in writing and then you have proof of his harassment, in which case put in a grievance with a copy of the letter you receive.

They can't do it, they know they can't do it, but they'll try it on with anyone they think they'll get away with it. You're doing your job properly and there's nothing they can do about it.

OH, if you do get it in writing, give a copy to your rep. They'll have to have a damn good reason in there for testing you. Also, if there's no mention of disciplinary action at the end of the test if you fall below standards, they can't do a damn thing to you as they have not forewarned you.
