Uncancelled stamps
i work at Chelmsford mail centre and I am disgusted at the amount of stamps passing through our network that are uncancelled! The managers tell us to stop cancelling as early as 8pm ! All they care about is getting the work through and receiving their bonuses !! I find at least 100 reused stamps daily. On Saturdays there is no cancelling at all!! Soon no one will be buying stamps from us they will be buying them from eBay at a bargain price, just take a quick look on eBay at the amount of unfranked stamps for sale. Millions of them !
As a share holder I demand something is done about this!

Uncancelled stamps
I work at Medway and also have this problem but to be fair our line manager tells us to pull out all the uncancelled as we are primary sorting and place into trays for a postie to run through the SCM.
The problem Is some people do NOT do this and sort into the Roads and once that happens they are not going to get cancelled.
I work on the early shift and to be fair there are enough of us to do this but on the late shift, it is pretty much impossible as they have to get the work out of the door and just don't have the resources to do this.
Nights have been doing a lot of our outward 2c and do NOT cancel anything which is crazy as like you say people are reusing them.
But at the same time, some of the people I work with are just as bad by not pulling out surcharges etc.
WHAT is wrong with these people? This is revenue that we must capture and get the money that we should be paid not allowing people freebies.

We are told by managers to stop cancelling, I personally ignore this and carry on cancelling. The new red cancelling tools have been taken off us by managers. Moyà green should be made aware of this massive problem, I have complained to auditors and world class mail but they ignore me.redheadedwoman wrote:I work at Medway and also have this problem but to be fair our line manager tells us to pull out all the uncancelled as we are primary sorting and place into trays for a postie to run through the SCM.

This will affect our profits etc !
Cancelling should be done at MC and not left to delivery staff who have enough to do !
I don't think people are aware of this massive problem created by deadlines n targets
, on Saturdays there is no cancelling done at all at Chelmsford, makes my blood boil

It's a joke we must be loosing millions of pounds in revenue a year surely it makes sense to make stamp cancelling a priority!. I cancel all the ones I see on delivery

They probably don't get done in any MC for the same reason not enough staff and/or time to do them, until they put the staff and hours in to do them frankly (pun not intended) there's no chance of them being done

Aren't the new stamps with 2 oval shaped cutouts meant to stop stamps being reused? They seem to work when I try to remove uncancelled stamps from envelopes.

Very true ! Typical RM ,So may cut backs to save money but in the long run without cancelling them n being reused so much we will lose £££. So many casuals in our office who haven't been told by managers to cancel them or to charge DSA out of area items , and I may add casuals who have worked 13wks con get paid more than us n they wonder why morale so low !

An old boy I used to know didn't mess about peeling off the stamps or cutting around them, he just re used the whole jiffy bag, sticking a new address label over the old one - saved him paying for that too!
Impossible to tell that it was a reused stamp or packaging and he proudly claimed to anyone who would listen that he regularly diddled RM out of about £100 a year. He had mates who would send the same stamp/envelope back and forth to each other for free!
He used to say that stamps on envelopes would get cancelled about 80% of the time and the jiffy bags less than 10% of the time because they didn't go through the machines and relied on hand-cancelling..

And so will they (your friends and neighbours) be paying you your pension when you retire ??? Where do you think the funding for your retirement comes from ??? We simply cannot continue offering a potentially free service to the public... come on everyone let's screw the nutpink panther wrote:I just tell all family friends and neighbours to reuse them.

I work in delivery and after reading this thread I decided to have a count of the uncancelled items getting through to my walk. Yesterday I had 12 packets of various sizes and 17 letters that were not cancelled. Today i had 10 packets and 23 letters. On a national scale, the potential loss of revenue is quite staggering.

Ask the tool in your office about the new hand-stamp tool...

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

We had 100 of these tools and our manager took them off us !! The managers just don't care . All they want is to hit their targets n get the bonuses (which we see none of)
