It means the delivery is unachievable on busy days and you have to leave loops in the frame for some other sucker to do. Less work for the same days pay makes sense to me. Those that rush around with bags on their shoulders so they can finish early are encouraging managers to put more work on to their rounds. Madness!
I dont think working "less" is the aim for people who use trolleys, firstly LWTs were implemented by the "high ups" in RM as delivery standard and also carrying pouches is probably bad for most peoples backs and is a pure h&s benefit. Most managers of course turn a blind eye to runners carrying heavy bags as it can be quicker....
Let me assure you, Health & Safety was NOT the primary reason for the introduction of LWT's. The primary reason was simply the ability to abolish packet duties from offices since the trollies have the capacity to carry more at any one time.

If they were that concerned about our H&S, then they wouldn't A) be suggesting that we do 5-6 hour deliveries

B) attempting to force people back to work who are signed off and then attempting to get them doing more work than their rehab plan recommends.

well it is to the point that they can turn around and try and weasel out of any future back related injuries and claim theyre not work related. I think RM h&s policy goes as far as to cover their own arse as much as anything else.

Swings and roundabouts with trolleys:

they take time to deploy;
take time to put away (esp when covered in dog poo :thumbdown );
difficult to take short cuts across gardens;
slow to navigate steps/obstacles on footpaths;

But:

you can usually take all the packets with you;
with less to carry, it's faster up and down steps to/from door;
there's no bag swinging round as you bend down for floor-level boxes;
there's no bag to catch on gates;
it's easier squeezing past cars on the drive (esp on Saturdays);

And, having been handed a loop with 8 bundles today, I'd say they're easier on your frame too.

Well it looks like they haven't told anyone about the current policy on the bags. I only know about it through this forum. So could they really weasel out of a situation when they have made no effort whatsoever to tell most of us about the changes?

We've got 4 times that amount of staff and about the same number of trollies. I saw one the other week, haven't seen it since!
