Pay rise this year?
The problem I find is that when you bring up RMC with senior members of CWU they are very dismissive. I have always assumed Dingo was the exception and even I have noticed how quiet the National CWU have been and considering the Trade Union bill you'd think they would be getting the branches busy preparing the troops for the struggle

Dave is the GS of the whole of the CWU not just the postal members ! The lead negotiator for the Postal side is the DGSP Terry Pullinger ! Only if Terry cannot resolve the issues will Dave become involved.
It was the same with the late great Bob Crow who rarely went into the negotiations unless they had totally broken down !
In terms of what we now face , it is hugely challenging , we have blocked the shareholders and Royal Mail from doing what happens when every other company does when they have been privatised and some of you don't appreciate that outsourcing has not happened , franchising of delivery offices has not happened , people have not come into the business on worse terms and conditions and kept all agreements such as MTSF.
Hence why Royal Mail is looking at a new strategy to reduce employee costs which involves later starts , longer delivery spans , less MGV legs , reduction in collection jobs and increased automation !

I would say yes, because you don't deserve a full time contract.Do you mean that literally, or just generally part timers when some in that office have been working regularly over their hours. I'm fighting the fight by not working overtime, does that mean a part timer who has been there years less than me but who works overtime should get a full time contract before me? How does the union stand on this?

Lol harsh way to put it but true I suppose. Surely if you want a full time contract, you'd work as much as possible? I'm not gonna lie, I become a total pain in the hole when I don't get what I want at work, but refusing to do overtime in the hopes of getting more hours seems very counterproductiveCreditshampoo wrote:dingo wrote: upgrade part timers who are working above their hoursI would say yes, because you don't deserve a full time contract.Do you mean that literally, or just generally part timers when some in that office have been working regularly over their hours. First off let me say that I am not hoping collection drivers lose their jobs. I have done collections myself and it has its own set of problems and challenges.dingo wrote:

OK, in our area deliveries have taken on a large number of post boxes as have lots of areas but we have had absolutely no reduction in the number of collection drivers or the hours they work. As I posted above I don't want anyone to lose their job but it doesn't make financial sense at all to me. I know I've mentioned this before but it genuinely puzzles me. Maybe that's why I'm a postman and not a planner/manager?

We do a lot of collection on delivery now. I think our collection drivers have thus had a slight decrease of hours as a result, but we still have the same amount of them. There's one old timer who's a bit maverick and if he fancies a bit of extra work he takes people's collection on delivery keys off them and does it himself. Perhaps also worth noting that he's the area's union repDeadly wrote:First off let me say that I am not hoping collection drivers lose their jobs. It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

The Agenda for growth agreement is clear in terms of increasing part time contracts hours. It must be against the same workload each day or each week if a rest day cover and it must be workload which will remain. It cannot therefore be against someone on maternity leave , sick leave or a vacancy which will be filled. Additionally it cannot be against overtime i.e. a different walk each day.
The example would be that a part timer has been upgraded in their current duty to full time to do prep , double prep , IPS and a walk. Or a part timer has to protract their delivery due to the fact that there walk should be ready for them when they come into the office and they therefore have to prep their work. These are the part time jobs which qualify for an increase in contracted hours as they fit the agreed criteria !

Given that the new machines will remove a huge chunk of everyone's work, it must be nigh on impossible to argue that the workload will remain.dingo wrote:The Agenda for growth agreement is clear in terms of increasing part time contracts hours. So I give up £1000's to protect jobs, and I'm penalised when it comes to handing out full time contracts?Creditshampoo wrote:dingo wrote: upgrade part timers who are working above their hoursI would say yes, because you don't deserve a full time contract.Do you mean that literally, or just generally part timers when some in that office have been working regularly over their hours. - Looks like us part timers are at the bottom of the food chain.

How are you being disadvantaged as a part time ??franco1 wrote:So I give up £1000's to protect jobs, and I'm penalised when it comes to handing out full time contracts?

Not sure if you mean me but...I'm not being disadvantaged as a part timer, I'm being disadvantaged as a part timer who is trying to protect jobs by doing no overtime. According to the union, the part timer who works regular overtime will be (or should be) given more hours on their contract. Surely it should go on seniority?dingo wrote:How are you being disadvantaged as a part time ??franco1 wrote:So I give up £1000's to protect jobs, and I'm penalised when it comes to handing out full time contracts?
