Team working.
Anyone got any idea why the CWU are against team working. They have always been against this but have never given any details. Maybe they have bad examples from other industries or different countries? I would of thought it would have no position in deliveries, but in mail centres it may have a place. For years I have wondered what must be wrong with team working. Have I missed something.

From what I vaguely remember (and I'm sure i might be wrong,) it was argued that team working would be all pain and no gain for the average OPG.
For example, team members would fight among themselves about when to take holidays, or get the blame for things really outside their control, like dispatch failures. Meanwhile, for all the extra doing of what a manager should do, there wouldn't be that much more money.

Thanks for some insight. If holidays were up to us then we would fight all year round, its only a step away from the lord of the flies as it is. Holidays would still have to be done by the bookroom. We did used to be blamed for all dispatch failures when it was nothing to do with us, but got the hour off the working week and the PBS bonus as compensation for their management culture. I don't think anyone cares about failures now at Bristol Mail Centre, if blamed we would just listen, leave the room, then turn up again the next day.

Bristol MC failing was foreseen by those who could think straight when it took on GL. As I understand it, missorts at delivery offices are now 10 times what they were before Bristol took over.teesdale wrote:Thanks for some insight. Casuals have been used since start of January to check for missorts at BMC. They were given a 3 month contract so will finish soon. Different casuals are used each day so could be sorting one day, tipping the next and then on to missorts, but one casual or another will be doing it each day. I'm not making it up, casuals do the missorts. Perhaps they will have casuals as managers next.
