A protest march against the proposed closure of Lewes Post Office is set to take place in the town this weekend.
Hundreds of people are expected to gather at the Post Office, on High Street, at 11am on Saturday, March 5 to show their support for keeping the facility open in its current premises.
A campaign to stop the Post Office closing was launched almost immediately after it was revealed Post Office Ltd planned to franchise services for 39 branches, including Lewes.
Post Office Ltd said the 39 branches would be rehomed after it finds a suitable retail partner to work with.
More than 2,600 people have signed a petition to stop the franchising of Lewes Post Office, stating it would ‘lead to longer queues, less services offered, and an all round inferior service, which will affect businesses and individuals’.
The march will be a very visual affair, with people dressed as giant Christmas boxes set to make an impact.
The flashmob will head from the Post Office to Cliffe High Street, where the protest will then continue.
