breaks

Post by DiamondSmiles »

And lets not forget these breaks are PAID breaks. You wouldn't get this in many other companies. If this were to change, those who don't take a break would no doubt be the first to moan that 40 minutes money has been taken away from their weekly wage. I do wish a lot of the younger posties would take a leaf out of the so called 'old timers' book and take their break. Trust me if you are lucky to reach 30+ years service you will be grateful for the rest!

breaks

Blue Moses wrote:Whilst there are and always have been runners in all offices the reality for most posties is this;
If you go in on your start time,put in your d2d in your duty time and take a full 40m break (I'm talking from a full time point of view),then almost all duties are not do-able in the alloted time.
However,if you inform a manager of this fact you will be looked at in a bewildered manner and challenged as to why the duty is not do-able in the time/we are/we're not,paying you o/t to complete/stand up rows etc.
If you continue over a period of time with this then your performance will be criticised/put under the spotlight but I bet the walk won't be tested.
The only way most people can complete anywhere near their duty finish time is to not take a break.
This has been caused by poor revisions,lapsing and van share duties.
It needs to be seriously looked at by the union in my opinion.
If lapsing, why? When technically, by not taking your ENTITLED meal relief, you are going over your time. Would you rather lapse or have a break?

40 minutes per day! Equates to 200 mins per week, or 3 hours 20minutes. (based on a 5 day week)

Or if you would like that in money per year terms, 200minutes x 47weeks x£11 per hour (inclusive of delivery supplement) = £1723.33

£1700 per year people are potentially putting back in RM's bank account by not taking their meal relief. Just ponder that for a second as to how many people do this.... It must save the business a good few £million per year!

Sorry Steve I meant 40 mins a day!
