No post today? Unballoted strike action leads to staff walkout in Wandsworth delivery office

Several postal disruptions have hit those in the SW18 area today after the Wandsworth delivery office was forced to close following health and safety concerns.

Nearly 100 Royal Mail workers are said to have walked out of the sorting office today in a dispute over working conditions.

Royal Mail spokeswoman Sally Hopkins said: "Royal Mail is disappointed at the unballoted action which took place today at Wandsworth Delivery Office which covers deliveries of mail to customers in the SW18 postcode area.

"We apologise to customers for the disruption to their mail services and we are doing all we can to minimise this disruption.

"Royal Mail is fully committed to the process of trying to resolve concerns of postal workers based in Wandsworth by following the national jointly agreed framework with the Communication Workers Union (CWU).

"We aim to restore all deliveries to our customers in Wandsworth as soon as possible."

A spokesman for the Communication Workers Union said: "There has been disruption to mail delivery services in Wandsworth area as a result of health and safety concerns in the delivery office.

"Things should be back to normal tomorrow."

Naughty wandsworth, wonder what happened, not keen on the RM standard response. They should sort these problems before they escolate.

My Son in Law is at Wandsworth reported to work they found workman had already commenced work due to start Sunday. Al the Loos for all were out of action. So staff had a sit in until porta loos were promised. the told they would lose 2 hours pay, So the staff went home

I was under the impression that if you stop work on H&S grounds which this obviously is, they can't stop your pay? They do have a legal obligation to supply toilets.

No working toilets. I heard they had a meeting in their canteen which lasted about 1.30 minutes. Then they were told by management to get back to work and the toilets would be fixed. However, they were then informed by management they would stop 1.30 from their wages. So they told management if you are going to stop 1.30 from our wages, you might as well stop a days wages and all walked out.

Anyone from Wandsworth who can shed more light on this. Understand there are other underlying issues .

Also heard, from a manager so don't know if it is true, that there was 2 working toilets but they didn't want to use them. Anyone from Wandsworth who can tell us the full facts?
