We have been told you go out for 3hr come back and then go out again for 3hrs.zola4ever wrote:How is that going to work ? It's a 7.48 hours working day. So with your prep ,load van, travel to and from first call, and meal breaks how are you meant to do a six hour delivery ?
This is total crap imho . The only way around it is to do away with meal breaks, then that would free up 40 mins extra delivery .

That would equate to 80 mins travelling time in our office, so don't see that happening. : )paulsmd wrote:We have been told you go out for 3hr come back and then go out again for 3hrs.zola4ever wrote:How is that going to work ? Cant see it happening. You would still need packet sorters then prep your own packets for delivery, prep d2d's,redirections,putting in all the sequenced mail. A lot of newer contracts are about 25hrs now so my 4-5 day week would be cut down to 3 days over the same hours which would actually benefit me. There is also the fact that 10 percent of our posties are over 55, do you really think they could cope with a 6hr walk? There is also to take into consideration added injuries, rise in shin splints and other issues due to the strain. Union would also lose a lot of members if they side with the idea.

They probably work in lovely weather all year round. I lived in Spain for a long time and trust me the postmen do not rush around there so a 6hr delivery whilst taking your time in lovely all year round weather does sound nice.Creditshampoo wrote:You say this but it works in Europe. There are so many products that cannot be incorporated into the workload without requiring actual prep that we remain a long way away from anything approaching a six-hour delivery, no matter how much RM would love for us to spend our whole shift pounding the streets.

Or Full timers work 5 days every mon or tue off.Part timers work wed to sat all of it on walk, hardly any prep as there would be no rm 2000 frame. All part time walks would be lapsed on a mon and tue......watch this spacepostiewhite wrote:Cant see it happening. Very interesting times ahead for sure.
At our depot almost half of us are Weds to Sat 20hrs bods.
They've managed to p*ss almost everyone off since Christmas to the
Extent most rounds aren't being finished every day now.
Two managers have thrown the towel in in that time.
Apparently they've been utilising these 20 hr contracts for 5 years now,
Someone smarter than most of us once said something like "doing the same
Thing over and over yet expecting different results is insanity" but I don't suppose
RM has an Einstein? Or maybe they've resurrected him and he's going to skweeze a 6
Hour round into a 5 hour day....
Looking forward to my full time contract tho, but not holding my breath waiting

Just another thought.
I'm typically walking 9 miles a day and since I started have lost just under 2 stone.
I'm struggling to take on the required calories for 4/5 hours walking, I'm not sure it's
even Possible in the long term for six hours, not on Postie's wages anyway and without

Well for a start part timers have do get a 1 in 6 saturday off so that wouldnt work. I work 4 days now. For me to keep within my contracted hours over the same amount of days and not go over I would need to sign in and literally get into the van to start a delivery which means someone would have to bag up for me and put them in the van or I go to 3 days. Im probably talking on behalf of 1000's of employees who are on the same part time contract.

Jesus, as a newbie I'm struggling to just deliver within my contracted 5 hours.
How are you supposed deliver and do all the sorting within 6 hours and do your job properly? As in, ring bell to deliver a packet, wait 3 mins for an answer, then ring round the neighbours, waiting 3 mins at each, before getting no answer and then filling out a 739, for all 30 packets you have that day?

Have a look in your walk log and see how many packets they have you down for on average. One of this biggest rounds on our office is down as averaging just 8 packets a day!!!!!!!!! they live in a fantasy worldwoopesh wrote: for all 30 packets you have that day?

Our office have been told that the machines will do all the prep, so 6 hour deliveries will be possible. But what about delivering in the dark in winter? Any thoughts? (I'm not a postie, I'm a Postie Partner, but I hope you dont mind me joining in.)

Surely that doesn't mean 8 attendance calls per day, as opposed to 8 oversized packets? Not that it matters, 1 way or another.sicknote25 wrote:Have a look in your walk log and see how many packets they have you down for on average. I can have 8 attendance calls in a single loop quite easily, as I imagine most would. Maybe between 8-20 larger oversized items that i deliver from the van. But it doesn't matter if an item is small or oversized, if it doesn't go through the letterbox or requires a signature, then it is an attendance call and it is the amount of attendance call per delivery that should be the important figure. Especially now that every attendance call has an undefined additional time potentially attached to it via "deliver to neighbour"!

split rounds
I have been a postie now for 3 months and am on a split round between me and another postie my round on average depending on packets takes about 3 hours and the other part takes 4 hours without a break . That's fine at the moment but the other postie is being moved onto collections cos he`s struggling to meet the times and I have been told I will be doing both rounds , just my half of the round fills a hct to the brim which will mean going back to the depot to get the other half of the round when I`ve finished the first half with a 20 min there and back to start again , they are telling it can be done but knowing full well it can`t be , any suggestionssteve1873 wrote:Surely that doesn't mean 8 attendance calls per day, as opposed to 8 oversized packets?
