The Brentwood delivery office on St Thomas Road closed suddenly on Tuesday after an electrical fault in the building.
Royal Mail spokesperson Sally Hopkins confirmed that it reopened the same day after the problem was resolved.
She said: "There was a minor electrical incident in Brentwood delivery office on Tuesday morning which set off the smoke alarm and we had to evacuate the building and the enquiry office for a short while.
"The fire services attended the scene and as soon as they gave the all-clear, we re-entered the building, re-opened the enquiry office and carried on working as normal. No-one was hurt and no mail was damaged in the incident. All deliveries were made on Tuesday, and the office was open as usual yesterday and today."

we had 3 powercuts over 6 weeks ago in the space of a few days. romec came out and checked it but only changed the fuses in the mains box. it kept happening so the lecky board came out. they confirmed it needed upgrading and totally rewired. so as a result they took away our microwave from the canteen, turned the hot drinks and pop machines off and the radio isn't allowed to be used either until the job is done as these were identified as overloading the mains electric. yet they can still take us downstairs for RM T.V. at worktime learning. glad to see they've got their priorities right....just got the microwave back yesterday.
