My area rep mentioned about losing a Tuesday delivery months ago. Its obvious RM will be looking to cut costs.

zx135, when were later start times agreed?... why did we not get a vote. it will drastically affect a lot of people with kids and other afternoon commitments.

Only 1 delivery of mail instead of 2 and 95% of mail will be walksorted including flats and D2D's , they are trialing the machines in Walsall and Exeter I think they said with 6 hour deliveries

he means the mail you receive in your office. it will come in ''one wave'' instead of the 2 you get now. hence the less indoor work which will lead to later starts. and then 6 hr deliveries.

"one person vans , no P/L van pairings" would mean more driving and less walking so a longer delivery might be forced on us

but where would all the extra vans be parked ?

good question, we arean out of town delivery office and we don't have anywhere to park at the moment and the workers cars block the vans in its total chaos

Can't see 1 person/van deliveries happening. The fleet is massive enough already, plus factor in fuel costs.

The only advantage it would bring is if they expect parcel volumes to rocket, so you literally couldn't fit two duties worth in one van. Or if they disband Parcelforce and we become couriers first postmen second.

Doesn't add up. 6 hr delivery spans plus travel time plus breaks = full time. So how can 80% of staff become part time?

If they are making the walks bigger they will need less vans a fewer postman.The few that are left will have to the lot

That is something I was trying to work out the other day. As it stands a FT duty split over 5 days (discounting long & shorts) is 7 hours 48 minutes.

Take 40 minutes off that for meal relief and another 10 minutes for daily vehicle checks. That leaves 6 hours 58 minutes. Take conveyance time to and from, and the ancillary tasks associated with a delivery, such as signing for specials, signing out van keys, loading van and then "pouching off" time at end of delivery then you are pretty close to, if not under 6 hours of shift remaining. That means absolutely no indoor work whatsoever.

And that is even assuming deliveries were accurately measured as 6 hours. As it stands just now the deliveries in my office are timed at 4:15, however on a busy day can easily take upwards of 5 hours. So that is say ~20% longer on delivery if busy. On a 6 hour delivery with the same 20% overrun extrapolated would put you well over 7 hours.
