I dont agree with Bonehead!!

Post by scottydoouk »

Think Bonehead is being a bit daft, at the end of the day being a posty is quite a skilled job - there is loads to remember and I would not be able to start work at 5am, sort s**t loads of mail for customers etc. Frame sorting is a skill that not many people could grasp. What you seem to forget is that its these guys who go out in all weathers, deal face 2 face with customers etc while we are in our warm offices trying to retain business and make more money. You may very well think that Sales cant sell but the fact of the matter is when Sales Management dont provide adequate training to people (i.e. my Team - Multi Claims for Special & Recorded) who do 2 jobs. It is only fair to get the pay rise the Posties deserve, especially when our "leaders" waste money on Proaganda TV screens, Give themselves £1m salary for working 2 days a week. If you are that against the real workers in the organisation then why dont you say you dont want your pay rise?

I am all for the posties and they deserve a fair deal. Not to be battered and have the piss taken out of em all the time. Would be interested in seeing the Have Your Say scores for some of the DO's & MC's this year.[/b]

Fair & Reasonable

Ok, ok I may have blasted many of you unfairly regarding your jobs, however, I will stick to the point that lots of contributors seem to suffer from the politics of envy and jealousy.

Also as you don't like being labeled as "lazy, theiving " postmen, not all managers are "useless and bullies".

Yes, I also have had s**t managers but then I'm sure there are postmen you wouldn't leave a £10 nearby them on a table either!

We may disagree :no no about certain points but just like you, I will defend myself and if need be go for jugular! :evil/mad

Ps. Scotty, I may not get up at 5am or go out in all weather but I face clients most days as that's my job and unlike the majority of postmen, if a granny complains I bet it doesn't end up as chairman's flag case as with my clients who spend over £40m pa. Don't be like some posties and fall into the trap that all managers sit on their arses all day coz I don't! But I respect your choice and freedom to disagree (without the abuse!).

Yes, put it in your piggy bank for a rainy day. I don't think I have ever seen anyone, over five, so excited about £10.

Still small minds!

Well said Bonehead, you keep getting the orders we'll keep f*cking em up. Anyone who falls for your brown nose flannel deserves everything they get.

It takes a special breed to be as good as you, but they'll never be a shortage, it seems strike breakers are just Key Account Managers in waiting.

What can you expect from the class nerd. I'll bet he was first in line when the teacher was looking for a milk monitor because you got a milky bar kid badge.

and what is wrong with being a postman, someone has to deliver letters and just because they do, don't look down on or denigrate them.
bonehead_2002 wrote:If some of you didn't piss about in school and actually worked hard to get some decent exams, then a few of you could be doing something more rewarding and not having to put up with dumb militants playing the 1970's industrial game on your behalf. :nervous
Just because you don't find being a postman rewarding does not make it unrewarding, and why do you class militants as "dumb". Suffragettes were classed as militant in their time and now women can vote. It is disrespectful to call people idiots just because their political view is different to yours.
bonehead_2002 wrote:And btw that has nowt to do with class and/or money... it's about personal application and the desire to get on!

again why does your definition of "getting on" have more validity than those who want to remain as posties.
I totally agree with what you say here - blanced and fair as ever.

I do however think that it is fair to say that many postings on here are not exactly positive about any other job fuction other than postman.

The typical post brands any manger etc as useless. From the evidence seen I can deduce that your senior management are indeed idiots - but not every person in a management role is useless. Many are but not all.

Outside RM some managers (predominantly in smaller business do also consider the workforce - because it is in their interest).

I do some work for a guy who has built a business from nothing up to £2million turnover in four years.

He built another business before to the same level working for someone else and got shafted - he left and six months later it went bust putting 20 people out of work.

This guy now employs most of the previous workforce. They all put in long hours but they are happy to work there because:
People are given responsibility for their own job - management only get involved if there is a problem.
People are talked to with respect - could you do this PLEASE?
The company and the workforce are flexible - ie you were happy to stay late to help(and obviously get paid) at short notice - therefore if you want time off at short notice then this will usually be accomodated.
Many of the employees (shop floor engineering) also play golf - as the company has had a good year the "boss" has paid for a corporate golf membership close to work(I think it has cost him about £4K). This is not for customers but the workforce.
There is a bonus scheme in place for all - it is based con company profit. If the company makes 10% more profit the workforce get 10% more bonus.

I am sure I will get shot down for this post but not all "managers" are bad.

Yes the "boss" gets more money than the workforce but he had to re-mortgage his house, sell his car and cash in his pension to start the business. In addition I am now chasing a £70,000 bad debt from some b*****d millionaire who decided to take adavntage of the limited liability laws.

Essentially there is good and bad in all areas of work.

It is not right to denigrate the job of a postie - on the same note many other jobs are also hard in one way or another

True. And it is those managers, the business, and the rest of us who are stifled by the Stalinist "Command and Control" culture that dominates the utterly incompetent and totally selfish management extremists in the board room. This filters down to managers at lower levels who are compelled to obey.... or else.... because their livelyhood depends on it. The only way you get to "advance your career" in Royal Mail is to submit to being lobotomised into this regime and becoming, for want of a better word, a c***. The worst managers are so inured in this evil creed they are now devoid of personality and humanity.

The way OPG's (I am one) detest managers and the culture that drives so many of them will take years to repair - its been going since at least Bill COCKburn and his flirtation with TQM - hopefully the beginnings of the end of such short sighted management are within the current dispute.

I hope so.

Your senior management do appear to be totally imcompetent and I am sure that those that "want to get on" have to brown nose their way up.

My point wasn't aimed so much at RM middle management - I do not know what they are like - ido not know any - more towards the anyone who does not lug post bags is not a worker attitute held by many.

I have worked predominantly for smaller companies and most managers have actually been OK.

A few absolute wa****s - one in particular.

Everyone hated him - most of all the customers. Luckily he was also stupid - when called in to a meeting to discuss my future and asked to confirm his coments by email he did - My solicitior loved it.

The problem you have in larger institutions is that normally the only way to remove people from a job is to promote them.

Point was really that many jobs other than postie are also hard work - maybe not physically but hastle
