Liverpool postal workers are absolutely right to stay out on strike, says Chris Jason. Wrong, says Charlie Butterworth. Where do you stand?

Chris Jason defends the ongoing industrial action at Copperas Hill
[quote]
Liverpool should be proud of the postal workers today manning the picket lines at Copperas Hill.

Here are a group of workers brave enough to defy the judges, bosses and Government to defend their jobs, pay and conditions and the future of a great public service.

On average they earn just £330 a week. Royal Mail Chief Executive Adam Crozier trousered £1.038 million last year.

Crozier treated us to a xenophobic attack on the posties' alleged "Spanish customs" last week. But the only "Spanish custom" these men and women know is a modest annual family holiday on the Costas. If they are lucky.

Crozier parrots the modern management mantra - demanding "flexibility" from the workforce. Only on his terms, of course. Creatively interpreted by local bosses, this means Liverpool postmen and women starting work half an hour later than normal and working Saturday afternoons.

Meanwhile, the Labour Government, when not hypocritically defending "family values" and the maintenance of a reasonable work/life balance, condemns the so-called “wildcat strikeâ€

Charlie Butterworth sounds like the sort of prick who thought the campaign against child labour or the slave trade was a big mistake as it would do untold harm to the economy. Charlie Butterworth and his kind think we should return to the days when workers tipped their caps to parasites. In his world, the date is 1799. He knows the world hasn't moved on for bosses and the office boys Royal Mail describe as 'managers'. He's just not happy that not every set of workers think the boss knows best. That idea went out when they made such a bollocks of the world economy in 1929.

Thing that struck me is that Charlie Butterworth who says we should look to the future and yet his whole argument is based in the past. Whilst the so called dinosaur Chris Jason bases his argument on future plans and forward looking proposals. Weird or what.

well yes! the protestant work ethic that Butterworth promotes , very laudable but not sure what century it's from. Have to watch UK History more often to enlighten myself .
The CMA leadership state RM in it's arrogance have the answer for everything & know best .
RM have moved forward from a Management Command style dating from demobilisation in 1945 to a 1970's Command & Control style led by two comedians that are as funny as a burning orphanage .However it's nice to see RM make progress.
It maybe a throwback to the 70's ,anyone to the left of Thatcher is a raving loony trot or a CPGB member and anyone to the right of centre is a facist going by HYS in newspapers online .
I think some Anthropologists may be interested in Butterworth , maybe the BBC should send David Attenbourgh to film him , they're fascinating those programmes about new species and unknown tribes .
