hardly any sequenced mail is first class, probably less than 5% so why sequence it ? you could work a day behind then for the dsa sequenced stuff, prepping this when you come back off delvery for the following day, if royal mail wants more parcels to be next day then these could be delivered later on in the day on a 2 delivery system.

Dingo, do you mean collection drivers to rotate with deliveries? I think there'd be mass resignations on the collection side

If by winning you mean defeating all the changes then I agree. But strikes are never meant to defeat RM or employers, they are used generally to mitigate the worst of what the business wants.motherhubbard wrote:Good luck to anyone who wants to fight the plans - you have my full support but I don't believe for one minute this fight is "winnable" (whatever that means)
It's an old age game. Business demands more than it wants, Unions become more belligerent and refuse everything. Eventually, they meet in the middle and the sheeple's agree to the deal while the informed, inform themselves and vote based on their own opinion and knowledge of all the matters so pertaining.
Like the film "its a never ending story" written large.

Re: One wave
Although there is merit in your out of the box thinking dingo I can't really see Royal Mail taking any of it on board simply because it makes planning and resourcing even more difficult and let's be honest, most of the managers are making a pig's ear of it already.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

It is not just one wave but resourcing to workload that will be the first thing that hits us all only then will the one big wave hit us all and the implications of such are far worse than you could imagine.

Re: One wave
Deadly Royal Mail Strategy is too only have one vehicle for the majority of delivery and collections. Prior to 1992 there was no collection hubs, collections were done by either the delivery staff or those based in mail centres. `Under Royal Mail strategy that will be returned too.Deadly wrote:Dingo, do you mean collection drivers to rotate with deliveries? Currently a lot of collection drivers are dependent on the van the delivery person is using. Royal Mail have already said they don't intend to buy extra vans and want to more collections done by deliveries in the future.
Remember no function is not impacted on by Royal Mail strategy.

Most boxes are done early in the day by delivery now when the start times are pushed back guess who will be doing them and late parcel deliveries for a time period.dingo wrote:Deadly Royal Mail Strategy is too only have one vehicle for the majority of delivery and collections. More collection on delivery means less delivery on delivery.dingo wrote:

Just as an aside what times are the latest collections?
Isn't it dark, when the pubs are open and the crazies are about?
Never let the hand you hold, hold you down.

All DSA is 1st class so that would fail if you done that and the time delay between 1st and 2nd class is already built in, 2nd class gets sent from an outward MC to the inward MC the next day so by the time it reaches the inward MC it's all 1st classclaretandblue wrote:hardly any sequenced mail is first class, probably less than 5% so why sequence it ? you could work a day behind then for the dsa sequenced stuff, prepping this when you come back off delvery for the following day, if royal mail wants more parcels to be next day then these could be delivered later on in the day on a 2 delivery system.

Re: One wave
Why is it always the lower paid posties that are always targeted to accept the changes within Royal Mail?? Because there are more of us? I have another strategy. Why can't Royal Mail get rid of some of the higher paid line and senior managers instead? Many of which could not organise a p*ss up in a brewery never mind try and plan staff resourcing levels.
Hands up posties who wants to keep their full-time hours?? - but only if you are prepared to work outdoors 9 till 5pm everyday 5 days a week!! The only thing that is inevitable about privatisation is the fact that Royal Mail's customer service goes to pot. Do we not care what our customers think when they see postmen and women trudging down the street at 4 or 5pm? From experience, Ive found that if I leave the office at 10am rather than an hour earlier, its so much more difficult to do the job because the first thing you do is deliver the 1pm Specials first before starting any loops. Just imagine how difficult it would be to be going out on delivery later and trying to finish in rush hour traffic
Maybe we will get more accidents on the road?
Sigh....so possibly going forward as these plans are still speculation, if a 35 hour week was proposed, with more outdoor work, then obviously we would need a decent increment in our hourly wage would we not? The Union are there to get us the best deal after all. And if the Royal Mail are hellbent on making wholesale changes then our union should be with us every step of the way too. I like the idea of more annual leave as I prefer to work to live and it would suit my work-life balance, the only problem is I never seem to get the weeks off that I want to! 3 weeks in February anyone??
Oh yes, no more absorption, so the rounds cant possibly get any bigger. Is that because the longs and shorts and loops 7 and 8 added to frames (sorry lapse) has now made the rounds absolutely MASSIVE now! And could this mean no more absorption indefinitely or will it just be another short-term plan? One thing is for sure, if these changes go ahead and we end up working later, there will be no more Union membership for me. We need to protect the USO and as a parent with small school children I really don't want any more changes to my working hours either.

Re: One wave
Only 1st class is 1st class , the rest is simply due for delivery and the point is that it's already been in the system long enough to transport it by road, the real issue is that the sequencing is retarded to allow the 1st class mail to be added to the batch.SpacePhoenix wrote:All DSA is 1st class so that would fail if you done that and the time delay between 1st and 2nd class is already built in, 2nd class gets sent from an outward MC to the inward MC the next day so by the time it reaches the inward MC it's all 1st classclaretandblue wrote:hardly any sequenced mail is first class, probably less than 5% so why sequence it ? you could work a day behind then for the dsa sequenced stuff, prepping this when you come back off delvery for the following day, if royal mail wants more parcels to be next day then these could be delivered later on in the day on a 2 delivery system.
The question is why are we delaying sequencing 90% of our mail just to add a small percentage of traffic that if we're honest our customers mostly don't care about.

* iLSMs and IMPs won't be available to use for sequencing as they'll be running outward plans
* The first class won't all be available until the outward plans have been run
* It'd f**k up the OEE figures, the clock starts when the first letters are sequenced, each time a batch is repeated the system counts it as an extra wave

If dsa is first class why are we given 3 days to deliver bulk postings ?SpacePhoenix wrote:All DSA is 1st class so that would fail if you done that and the time delay between 1st and 2nd class is already built in, 2nd class gets sent from an outward MC to the inward MC the next day so by the time it reaches the inward MC it's all 1st classclaretandblue wrote:hardly any sequenced mail is first class, probably less than 5% so why sequence it ? you could work a day behind then for the dsa sequenced stuff, prepping this when you come back off delvery for the following day, if royal mail wants more parcels to be next day then these could be delivered later on in the day on a 2 delivery system.
