I don't think it is a matter of voting yes for a few quid.
If RM have got machines that will do away with part of our indoor work, the union can't veto their use.
Will voting no and taking strike action going to prevent these plans? I seriously doubt it.
Is going on strike going to drive away the very customers we need to protect the jobs we have left? Possibly

I certainly would not vote for later finishes. My work-life balance is my priority and it always will be.

Will it happen? Yes, it will probably an extension of the Indoor Work Tools i.e. the CWU. The Union lacks a really strong leadership to prevent such changes from happening, so you probably won't get much for accepting any 'deal' anyway. You could say that the Union is only as strong as its members. Well if thats the case, why not reduce the subs to just a £1 a week? Why would any PT be in the Union when the CWU agreed that they were only getting a pro-rota payment on D2Ds?

Apart from one or two, most reps seem to be in for themselves. How disgusting is it that reps (paid for by us) who use all that knowledge of Royal Mail's procedures then become f**cking managers and use it on us. It leaves most members thinking are they actually working for THEM or US.

Jeez, the results of the possible trials aren't even known yet, but the whispering Chinese are already in full-swing threatening to leave the CWU because of this that and the other potential problems with the home life, etc
Of course things are going to get worse; as someone has already posted, it's a 24 hour lifestyle now, and if little Wayne can't get his latest toy by tomorrow via RM, then one of the many other couriers will see to it that he does.
And that's parcels. Relying on the ever-decreasing volume of letters {cue ostrich-like comments here} to save jobs or keep the same working hours in DO's is just p*ssing in the wind.
RM knows that even if the old-stagers resent delivering late afternoons/early evenings, there's plenty of ready and willing people able to step up and do it. Just look at the sheer amount of casual staff willingly working long crap hours in MC's at Christmas for proof of that.
Be interesting to see if the sheep really do resign en masse from the CWU though. The CWU is about all they've got for legal advice and protection these days....

You'll still need your prep frames in DOs, as unless it's a really quiet day, there's no way that most batches will be doable in one hit on a CSS machine. You'll probably be looking at least half ten minimum before sequenced mail would be sent out on an average day. On a really busy day when you've got big bulk postings it could even be after midday before sequenced mail goes out to DOs. The only chance of getting it earlier would be for RM to scrap all CSS machines (meaning no more MPUs) and install more iLSMs in MCs and extended existing iLSMs

We're a MPU and I don't think we can have bigger trucks because of entrance and turning circles.
I don't see less manual mail coming in I just see larger wave 2's, I also see failures of USO.
We already have opg finishing in the dark, I don't see RM getting us to deliver in the dark because of their change in H&S, I think there will be to many accidents etc and they won't be able to blame the opg.
I do think we might see collection SA's disappear so all FT opg will in effect do hybrid jobs i.e. delivery then collection.
I suppose for some opg like myself who are over 50 and would like to retire early, then we might be able to get buy downs or even EVR, but personally I'd rather not have this option, but I don't really see any FT opg in 5 years time especially as I think the USO will be changed by the government

If I was young enough I'd be looking hard for another job, especially with the living wage approaching our wages, I don't see us out running the living wage for long.

Very depressing!

I suppose if DOs can't take bigger trucks and get moved, then deliveries would be smaller because of the extra travelling to and from delivery?

totally wrong, they must oppose these larger deliveries & 6 pm finish times on h&s grounds for both, there are far too many h&s ramifications for both to go into on here, but you must realise this is 2016 not 1965, anything can be stopped on h&s grounds now.
The musculoskeletal disorders which would come along with 6hour plus deliveries & saftey issues with delivering in the dark as far as hazards & security go will go along way in any talks. £700 million profit is plenty, lets all be sensible here.
Our union is here to protect us from damaging working conditions, the vision royal mail have for us will damage many of us in the coming months & years so our union must not roll over & be happy to just play along, they must play to win! Many cannot cope with the workload now! people who have 20 years of work ahead of them are worried sick as they dont know how much longer they can cope, the answer is not we can get these machines & heap even more on people who are already knackered up! There must be a line the union draw, they must not budge on certain issues, longer deliveries is one & tea time postal deliveries is another. Or we will all be unable to do the job longterm.

A 6 hour delivery and finishing early evening is the last thing i want but can you show me anywhere that this can be stopped on health & safety grounds? I'd like to think you have a case but personally i think you're clutching at straws if you think this is our best way of stopping these changes

Imagine going out blind on a delivery in the dark.
Imagine going out on a delivery blind and you pick the sequenced mail out of trays and put them straight into bags.
Imagine going out on a delivery with bags of mail ready for you but loads of packets you can't mark up because all the mail isn't in a frame
