Correct?
not sure about the 'to big for the letter box' thing... but as far as items that need to be signed for, yes you deliver them to the front door... ring the buzzer first to see if they're in if need be, then deliver to their front door.

Here's the point some of you are not getting.

YOU work for the postal service, not the customer.

The customer should NEVER have to leave their own home for you to complete your delivery. This is your job, to deliver!

If something doesn't need to be signed, YOU DELIVER IT either through a letter box or in the central delivery point, where the customer will pick it up at their own convenience, not at your personal convenience.

If it DOES need to be signed for, YOU DELIVER IT to their front door to be signed, ring the buzzer to check if they're home first if need be, but you deliver it to the front door, you don't in-convenience the customer by forcing them to come out of their home to meet you half way..

The customer should play no role in the delivery process apart from the signing of a package at their front door.

You're the postman.

Do your job.

youd have to go at a time when you dont have to leave a trolley unattended... if that is completely impossible then you need to address it with your line manager and find out how this can be rectified. As always, if the only argument against this is it takes longer thats not your problem, Royal Mail has to allocate sufficient time for you to deliver the mail safely and securely.

Unfortunately while I agree with a 100% with what you say :thumbup RM do not build the time into duty's to accomplish what you say  if for example you have a block of 40 Flats with letters box downstairs you would probably get 2 min delivery time for that block, now if you have 3 parcels and one signed for item all for different address it could take you 12-15 mins to deliver to that block(I talk from experience) if your whole walk is on an estate like that then the time difference is massive, you also must remember that RM policy until a few years ago was that people came down to the front were there letter box is because that is were they class your delivery point as being.(and when they changed it they didn't give any extra time)

People will say do it, work to your time and if you don't finish bring the work back, that's easy for people like me and a lot of posters on this site  but the Bullying and Harassment of the new staff many only on 5hr contracts with no hope of ever finishing on time, and if they don't being told your not up to scratch or this job is not for you is reaching epidemic proportions, so you are correct to say "do your job" but many people are doing it and not getting paid for the hours they work over :angel

Where is the customer's letter box? That's the delivery point, not their front door if all the letter boxes are in the communial lobby/hallway

incorrect, what your talking about is for standard post that doesn't need to be signed.

Read again

"If you have an item that needs to be signed for this will be delivered to the door to obtain the signature rather than left at the central point."

http://www.royalmail.com/personal/help- ... -addresses" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You never, ever force the customer to leave their home and threaten them with missing their post because it suits you. They may not be in a position to leave their home at the drop of a hat, just as people wouldn't be expected to leave their home and walk to the end of their street at the drop of a hat to meet you half way to sign for their post.

Unsigned for post goes to their letterbox.

sign-for post, you go to the customer, the customer doesn't come to you.

This is the process like it or not, if you're not doing this, you're not doing your job correctly.

read the policy, 3d paragraph http://www.royalmail.com/personal/help- ... -addresses" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

you can bitch and moan about this all day and try to make excuses for not wanting to do it, but the fact is this is the policy of the royal mail,
if you're not doing this you're not doing your job.

I think it depends on the type of property. Purpose built flats are OK as far as I am concerned but properties that have been divided up into bedsits are not.
I don't deliver to people's bedrooms because they don't want to come to the door. I don't deliver to bedsits where I have to enter a property if I am unsure of the layout or if I feel my security is at risk.

1.Your residence is a self-contained property and is separately and individually rated by the local authority for council tax purposes.
2.Your residence can be clearly identified (with a number, letter or name) and has its own letterbox (or a secure lockable receptacle that clearly corresponds to the residence)
3.Our delivery staff can gain safe and easy access to perform delivery to your residence.

That part of the link you helpfully posted then takes precedence.

Incidentally how would we know if the property is individually rated by the LA for council tax purposes?

Sure that's understandable, BUT....safety is not the issue at hand, most people on here are saying that they simply can't be fkced to do their jobs...

the policy is clear:
"If you have an item that needs to be signed for this will be delivered to the door to obtain the signature rather than left at the central point."

if you're in a multi-occupancy and there's a central point, that's where the NON-sign for post gets delivered to.

if you have a sign for package, you take the package to the front door to be signed for, you DO NOT insist that the customer leave their home to come meet you.

You never force the customer to leave their home to complete your delivery, PERIOD!

it doesn't matter what your personal preference is, is doesn't matter if you can't be bothered, it's doesn't matter if you don't want to.

The customer is never to be forced to leave their home and meet you half way

non sign for items go in the letter box (where ever that may be located) and sign for items get delivered TO the customer at their front door while their still in their home.

Anyway, the hammer is coming down on this as we speak, I know of 2 people who've been sacked for this, this week.

Read again and adhere to your job description unless you want to be signing up for jobseekers allowance in the next few weeks

"If you have an item that needs to be signed for this will be delivered to the door to obtain the signature rather than left at the central point."

Sorry it say's in your contract "AS DIRECTED BY A MANAGER" and my manager say's NO GOING UP STAIRS because the letter boxes are just inside the main door to the block of flats and that is the delivery point, not the front door. If the occupant is disabled or heavily pregnant then i don't mind making an exception but if you get an answer like {can you just pop up mate i've just got out the shower} no mate get dressed or get a card.

Again, you are incorrect and referring to standard post that doesn't need to be signed for.

The policy is to take all sign-for post to the door and never force a customer out of their home.

You're breaking company policy which is classed as gross misconduct. I suggest you read your contract again before you see yourself out of a job.

Correct me if Im wrong but the only real exception Royal Mail makes to not using the golf trolley was if you deliver to flats.

So If the postie carried the bag as expected then they neither leave a trolley unattended downstairs and can walk upstairs and get the recorded signed without any repercussions. If the loop is that heavy with mail/packets that they can't carry the pouch then the full loop either needs to be adjusted or reviewed by the lino.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
